I've just looked at an old video on Silverstone 1981 GP, De Angelis tries to pit in, but a marshall, presumably.., stop him before he can enter the pit lane, follows an almost fight..., then De Angelis drops the car on place and goes away by walking...

Can anybody clarify this curios event ?

De Angelis thought he was black flagged after 25 laps of the race...

Copied this from a post from the fameflame forum:

it was in 1981 at the British GP (Silverstone). this is the ned of one of Elio's greatest drive. Elio qualified 22nd (because of one day lost with the Lotus 88 + the team just changed from Michelin to Goodyear). anyway, Elio stormed through the field from 22nd to 6th in the modest Lotus 87 but was given a 10seconds stop&go penalty for overtaking under yellow flag (for passing Laffite who will later finish 3rd). Unfortunately Elio thought that he was disqualified and walked away.

He was awarded a 10 seconds penalty stop and go but he thought he got disqualified so he walked away from his car!

Bigears, thank you for providing this stuff! Now I added "thought" to my previous post.
