Now, if I could just have a similar-scale and -angle shot of each driver without a helmet, and a few minutes with Photo Shop...
Oh, yes: and just a few minutes loose on the track in any one of those.

Beautiful photographs. May we have some more 250F's?
Thanks.

Nice pictures, and yes, now we have 18. Agreed.
CM-9 could easily have been there, perhaps displayed compliments of the Maserati Club?
Thanks for those.
Any sign of David Bennett's sky blue Interim 250F?
I also see that there was an entry for Holland's Alexander van der Lof. Did you see any sign of that car? No.208.
Cheers,
Barrie

Very much appreciated.
Wow, were up to 19. Not a bad collection.
I may be pushing my luck here but could either yourself or Macca post (if available) individual pictures of the remaining cars, some of which showed up in the two line-up shots?
Those with numbers would be 2520-#228, 2516-#237, 2507/23/22-#206, 2528-#32 and Tec-Mec-#178.
Those perhaps without numbers would be 2529, 2515 and CM-4.
Thanks guys. It means a lot to David and I.
Cheers,
Barrie

My thanks as well, great photos of one of my all-time favorite GP cars; and to Barrie for adding an identity for each of these wonderful racing machines.
Maybe next year......

While I was at Donington, I drove round to the Sunday market area to do a couple of laps of the Melbourne Loop...........now I knew that new tarmac had been laid at the top of the hill, but I was disappointed to find that the actual old Melbourne Hairpin had disappeared under an area of tarmac and that all that's left of the pre-war circuit are the short straights up and down the hill, also resurfaced.
When did this happen? Did nobody protest at the time? I appreciate that the Sunday market is part of the commercial operation that keeps Donington open for events like See Red, but I'd have thought they could have been a bit more sensitive.
Anyway, here is a shot of an Auto-Union climbing the hill on a hot lap..........

2531 on track - not very sharp, I'm afraid.

and Jeannot at Monza in 1957 for comparison.

It takes a real enthusiast and a sharp eye to track them all down.
I would also like to congratulate you both on your knowledge of chassis numbers. I know not every car has a glaring chassis plate on the instrument panel declaring the vehicle you are inspecting. Even I find it difficult at times with the likes of quickly telling 2516 apart from its CM-1 and CM-4 clones.
Thanks for your efforts, both of you.
Cheers,
Barrie

Also, I believe the programme listed the numbers, and each car in the display marquee had an identifying plaque.
Which of course is not to say that I, too, very much appreciate the provision of the pictures

However there was a complete c/n + history + current owners list in the programme, so I was able to match owners from the race entry list (apart from a couple that weren't driven by the owners).............and then I had to note down which shot on the camera was of which car if the number wasn't visible.
All good fun anyway, and great to see so many cars - just sorry I didn't photograph all the 300Ss, 4CLTs, etc. as well.

A few years ago - 96/97 there was a 250F replica CM? doing the rounds of the classic summer series in NZ ............. the information board stated that the car was a true reproduction of one of the greatest Formula One cars ever constructed ........ and there on the board for all to see ..... engine capacity 3000cc !Originally posted by Macca
Well, I don't know about expert guidance....................but the cars in the display marquee did indeed have an information board above them - only I didn't include the boards in my pictures,

Going back to See Red, there were a couple of absentees that have been seen a lot in UK racing in recent years - a red 250F with a thin yellow/blue noseband which David Pennell used to race, and the first of the 'off-centre' cars, the 1956 Italian GP winner, that Murray Smith drove at Goodwood a couple of times. Are they abroad now?

Interesting to see seven CM cars at the event. I'm sure if CM were still here, he would have seen to it that another had come in from Scotland. If the van der Lof car had arrived, we may well have seen all but 3 of his creations. We can forgive the three for they are literally half way around the world.
Another interesting item is how many times 2527 has had major tail/tank damage.
I count 4.
1 - 30 Mar 1959 Goodwood - Ken Kavanugh - collision with barrier
2 - 13 Sep 1969 Thruxton - Patrick Lindsay - collision with Armco - 10 years later
3 - 21 May 1995 Donington - Peter Hannen - tank explosion - 26 years later
4 - 3 Sep 2005 Donington - Peter Neumark - rear-ended - 10 years later
Cheers,
Barrie

Again, very nice pictures.
Yes, Rick Hall driving, or pictures of 2513 seems to be a rare indeed.
