One never returns with completely empty hands from the vacation.
And if one is already in the Médoc then comes also in the mind the magic words Grand Prix. There was nevertheless... 1950 a F2 race at Lesparre-Medoc.

Stefan gives a beautiful sketch on his web site as well as the results. http://www.formula2.net/Medoc.jpg Unfortunately is no driving direction shown.

provides also a city plan in addition.

So I went there to see what one can find today.

I believe that the start is approximately in the middle of the Av. du Docteur Henri Benaben . At least Stefan’s sketch permits this conclusion.

with the view to the Virage of the Fontaines. On the other side of the road there is now a large sport area.

here the circuit took the Avenue de Bordeaux, the RN 215

By a avenue of trees the straight went to the junction of the Cours Victor Hugo at the Virage en Epingle de St.Leonard

in the inside of the curve is now a Leclerc supermarket (also a motorsport relation)

the Cours Victor Hugo surley had in 1950 no center strip. View in western direction.

The “Autodrom” of this triangular circuit with the most bends was at the church St.Clair.

I did not find any pictures from 1950 so far.

Naturally I wanted to know some more background of the race and something on the starters and cars in this race. But both, the local library and the localeditors of the Sud Ouest, knew nothing about this race. Perhaps still central archives of the Sud Ouest in Bordeaux could help but my time had runout for a trip to the archives had run out.

But I’m sure here is a good place to get some more informations.
