I recently found out that a DVD with the famous Shell series A History of Motor Racing is announced on at least two outlets on Internet.
The release date was set on 8 august 2005, but may be delayed?
The price for the complete package of more than 200 minutes is around 20 Pounds, a real nice price for that great compilation of thes historic movies!!
I have been putting Shell in my tank for ages now and always hoped to get it one day!!
Who knowns more about this release?

That does sound a good deal on a truly great set of films in sharp crisp reproduction compared to some very early VHS , mine must be 20 years old, I have not seen it advertised, where did you hear about it ?

I can remember those films being shown by the BBC during a school holiday when I was about 14. They showed one film each day at lunchtime. I can vividly remember "The Titans", and the sound of the superchargers. That film also brought drivers like Jean Pierre Wimille to my attention - I'd never heard of him before that.

I'll be buying a copy......

Yeah, funny how the Beeb never repeated them after home video recorders came in! They ran them at Christmas and/or Easter for a few years IIRC.

One dealer seems to have it priced as low as £13.99, which is ridiculous (but very welcome!) when you consider that the Duke Video VHS versions were £14.99 each!

Thanks for the tip Paul!

I wouldn't guarantee availability from stock though, as all others seem to say it's not yet available.

WH Smith answered to me today...

RE: Shell History Of Motor Racing (DVD)

Thank you for your email. I have checked with our suppliers and
unfortunatley the release date for the above DVD has yet to be confirmed.
Unfortunatley I'm unable to confirm a definite delivery date at this
stage.

so I am afraid, we have to wait...:rotfl:

I'm afraid we've been trying to get hold of Shell History Of Motor Racing for some time now, but unfortunately we have now learnt that our suppliers have withdrawn this item from sale.

I'm very sorry that we will not be able to fulfil your order for this item but we are certain that we will not be able to get any more of it. We have now removed it from our site.

Paul,

This is often the case in the video/CD/DVD business. The resellers often don't really know what they are selling, when and to whom. Often release lists are blindly copied or even misinterpreted, resulting in these kind of loops you enjoyed. I'll bet Duke will release them. Keep me posted if you can buy them, Ill post you if more news.

In fact it is a Duke release!!
And this is not new to me,
I am still waiting for the Lotus series volume 1 to 4 that was announced on DVD:
More than a year!! ago at Play.com!!
So I totaly agree with you!!

That's the VHS video, which has been available for some years. But it's three tapes (that's only the first one) - I haven't checked Duke's price list recently, but they were £14.99 each, which I've always considered excessive for 1-hour tapes, especially since Shell must have written off the cost of producing it decades ago!

In my view it is a big shame that they,
SHELL !!
never offered the series as a bargain or even gift
to there many, many of customers filling
there cars at the many, many
SHELL
gas stations!!
