Looks like Jack Brabham to me. I would guess at Brands Hatch - 1957 or 8. Just a guess.

Brands Hatch August 1958, I would say
Several shots of Brabham (F2 Cooper) and one of McLaren (ditto)
Pretty sure it's Ivor Bueb in the Lister-Jaguar
Chris Bristow (Elva #65)
Most of the rest should be identifiable without too much difficulty - but not in the time I have available at the moment

I agree. Stuart Lewis-Evans apparently won the Formula III race. Is the Aston Martin DB3S Coupe Jean Bloxam in DB3S/120? I love car number 12!

Seems like they already did some Historic Racing then!

Richard

Hopefully nobody else is doing this for you as I should hate to be pipped at the post!!

The photos are all taken at the Bank Holiday meeting at Brands Hatch on 4th August, 1958.

Starting with the oldies:- #2 is Sir Francis Samuelson in his 1914 Sunbeam (3.215 litre) that finished 5th in the Veteran, Vintage & Edwardian Handicap over 4 laps. #1 is Jack Sears in his identical car that came 2nd in this race.

#7 is Lord Montagu in his museum's 1914 Vauxhall (4 litre), the winner.

#12 is Lewis "Pop" Lewis-Evans in a 7 litre 1911 Rolls Royce which he glided into 7th place. Mrs "Pop"drove a little 1075 cc Wolseley with a credit lap plus 66 second start but only managed 10th just ahead of T.Lewis-Evans in a 1906 Darracq. Of course Stuart was racing his BRP Cooper in the F2 race and the Beart-Norton in the F3 race. Happy days for the family but sadly it all went wrong later in the year in Morocco.

#11 is one Mr A.Brown in a Ford of 2000cc

Of the 500s - Stuart won. The Coopers shown are #7 Jack Lewis, destined for F1, who came 2nd, #8 Tommy Bridger and #11 Peter Ellis.

#24 is D.G.S.Cotter in his Luna-J.A.P., a photograph of which I have never seen before.

#78 is Ivor the Driver (Bueb) in the works Lister-Jaguar before the introduction of the horrible name Knobbly.#65 is Chris Bristow in the Bradstock Motors Ltd Hume-Elva. #68 is John Brown in his Elva Mk3, #51 is Alan Stacey in the Team Lotus Eleven and #56 Michael Taylor in one of the Innes Ireland Ltd Elevens. #87 is, indeed, Jean Bloxam in her coupe DB3S.

The F2 Coopers are those of the Cooper Car Co Ltd, #28 Bruce McLaren and #29 Jack Brabham.

It is sad to reflect that just two years later Stuart, Ivor, Chris and Alan had all been killed and Michael badly injured. Jean's husband Roy was also killed. Bruce had a few more years. Motor-racing was so, so dangerous back then.

John

Hi John and all

Thanks for your replies and detailed information.

I also have some "cine" film of Brands Hatch with, I think, Jim Clark and Graham Hill. They are driving saloons and single seaters. I will try to copy some of the frames and will post if it is of interest.

Thanks again
Richard

Wow!

According to Martin K.'s site, Bueb won the unlimited race and Stacey and Taylor were first and second in S1.1
