Does anyone have any reports/pictures/recollections of James' Williams test back in the early 90's. I seem to remember there being some talk about him considering returning to racing at the time. If memory serves he was quite a bit off the pace, but what was the point of the exercise ? Was it a PR stunt or was he seriously considering a return to the cockpit ? Sadly there doesn't seem to be much webspace out there dedicated to him, so would be grateful if anyone can fill me in.

I know that James tested Williams FW12C in December 1989 at Paul Ricard and it was more a PR

Stirling Moss 'tested' a current Brabham-BMW in 1983 at Brands Hatch. I was there, but I did not get the impression he was up for a drive.

this Moss character seems to be a bit of a 'waster'. I seem to remember he tried out Jackie Stewart's Tyrrell at Donington and didn't get THAT drive either !!

..and I believe both Stirling and James were present at Goodwood in November 1981 to "test drive" the new Nimrod Aston.
I think, like the Williams test, James was in Sussex as a PR exercise rather than anything more meaningful.

Wasn't that the same test (Stirling at Brands) that PK said "it's ok at Brands, but if I loose it at Paddock, I want someone behind the guardrail with a rifle to get me first!"
