Please help me with date of Southport race held in middle of April. There's British Pathe film:
http://www.britishpa...start=21&rpp=20 (see 488.25 RACING ON THE SANDS)
http://www.britishpa...hword=Southport (stills' thumbnails)

The date in caption is April 22, it's Thursday. I noted that most of BP films were issued twice a week - on Mondays and Thursdays. Motor sports events were held usually on Saturdays so film news were ready by Monday. And what if the film was issued on Thursday? It probably meant that it was too long road from the place of event to be in time for Monday issue or the evnt was after Sunday (usually on Monday).

And another question on 1926 BP film:

http://www.britishpa...nds Thomas 1926
http://www.britishpa...word=Brooklands Thomas 1926&searchword=Brooklands Thomas 1926

The same story. The date in caption is November 24, it's Wednesday. When the attempt really took place?

Southport 17 April, 1926. The estimated 10,000 spectators were "treated" to seven-and-a-half hours racing in cold, drizzly weather which slowed the organisers down to a snail's pace and put paid to public address system in the afternoon thus preventing the crowd from knowing what was going on. It was a treat that most of the spectators could have done without.

The Parry Thomas film might be an amalgam of more than one day. According to Boddy's Brooklands book, he made least four record attempts in October 1926, only one of which is given a definite date. That was October 30th, when he ran the Flat-Iron Thomas Special 2. There was another run in "Babs" earlier in the month. These pictures show the Leyland-Thomas, which was used on the other two occasions.

On neither of those occasions does Boddy record three records being set: the first run - early in October - resulted in five (500km, 500ml, 3hr, 1000km and 6hr) and the second in one: the 1 hour.

However, there was an occasion when he set three: but that was the day he was out in "Babs"! Which didn't have a Leyland engine ..... :

EDIT: just a thought, maybe Pathé chose to ignore the kilometre records? A bit "Little Englander", but it might be an explanation.
