Does anyone have any photos of Seppi from the III Gran Premio del Mediterraneo 1964 event held at Enna? I am looking for a photo of the prize giving ceremony in particular...

Respectfully,

After further review, any photos of the top three finishers, Siffert, Clark, or Ireland would be fantastic, as I've come across a trophy from the event...but haven't a clue whom it belonged to. I know Innes' cup was sold at the Sotheby auction in 1997, so there is a good chance that it was his...

As always I thank you for your consideration,

Respectfully,

Didn't Motor Sport revisit the location a year or two ago?

How frustrating, I've seen a post race photo of Ireland, Clark and Siffert at Enna in the last couple of weeks, but for the life of me I can't remember where.

I've got the catalogue of the Sotheby sale and this cup is one of the few items not illustrated. I seem to recall seeing what was described as Ireland's third place cup being offered for sale on ebay a few months ago.

Dear KJJ,

This could very well be. I purchased the item off of eBay, but the seller did not know whose cup it was. It is only 12" tall, thus, I would think that it would be a third place trophy, and the fact that Innes had a trophy from the event means that they did, in fact, give out awards through third place.

Would this trophy have the date 9th August 1964 engraved ?

Is this the same trophy we were discussing re the Pergusa F2GP of the week before? Thought we had established it was awarded to either Hawkins or Gardner?

Dear Rob29,

No, this was from the Non-championship F1 race held the week after. Seppi won the race, just edging out Clark, with Innes rounding out the top trio. I'm almost certain it was Innes's trophy, but I would have to find out from the Jim Clark Room and perhaps friends of Siffert to make sure it was not theirs.

I bought it from a chap in the UK, and after looking at Innes' webpage, I learned of the auction in the late 1990s where a trophy with this description was sold....

Thus, I'm very close to saying case closed...but not quite yet! ;)

Thank you for your interest.

Respectfully Yours,

I've never seen a picture of it, but is it Trevor Taylor's accident in 1963?

Yes it is. Trev is being - very rashly - picked-up off the track in front of the pits after having been thrown out of his crashing Lotus 25 (beginning to burn, opposite). He had been struck in the face by a stone thrown up by Lorenzo Bandini's Centro Sud BRM just ahead of him. He got away without any fractures but was pretty thoroughly battered and beaten-up. I believe Jack Brabham flew him back to England in his private aeroplane.

Poor Trevor must have been right sick and tired of being bashed about in Lotus crashes by that time...

Trevor must be classed as one of the luckier drivers from that era, in that he had several 'biggies' but happily is still here to talk about them!
