In the Autosport review of the Aurora AFX British F1 series 1979 there is a mention that Dennis Leech, touring car ace and former F5000 pilot, had run an ex BS team McLaren M23 in September at Thruxton ".. said to be a stop gap untill the self-styled Leech-DFV is complete"....
Now the question is....was it ever started, let alone "complete"?
I've never seen any other mention of this project. Any other information known? Was it perhaps a reworking of an existing car in the way Brian McGuire reworked his old Williams chassis into a "McGuire" in 1977? Or was it a completely new design?

Either that or trying to talk up the 'project' to attract a sponsor!

If so the 'cub' was none other than Marcus Pye!

Everyone was a cub once.
Have you asked Marcus?

I'll email him now.
Covering the Aurora series with it's european rounds would have been a very nice job for a cub reporter.

Marcus Pye thinks the Leech DFV was probabaly Dennis having an old crashed March chassis, or something similar, in his shed which he planned to rebuild and, in the process, redesign a bit so it would fit him better.
As far as he knows nothing came of the idea.
He added that Dennis was always very resourceful and sometimes raced his Chevron B28 without any pit crew, even having to get out of the car and change a wheel on his own , mid race, on one ocassion!

There was a early drag racer (late 60s/early 70s) as I recall by the name of Tony Nancy.
His nick name was 'The Loner' - because he did the WHOLE thing himself.
It seems the Leech DFV was somewhat less advanced in its construction programme than the Ganley DFV.
