I got back from Britain to find an early proof copy of Emotion Ferrari, the latest tome by French historian Maurice Louche. It is in his usual format, hundreds of photographs most of which have not been previously published. Keep a look out for it in the specialist bookshops - Maurice publishes all of his own books and is not into e mails or web sites. However, the book is superb and a must for any Ferrari nuts particularly as he has attempted to put chassis numbers to the cars in the photos

What period does it cover, Graham?

It is from 1947 - 1972 so you have all the great cars.

Here's a scan of a pre-order flyer I was given last year. I believe this is also the cover of the book.
Every "Ferrari" word was barred on the flyer. They said they weren't authorized to use that word without permission.

Graham, are there more Rodriguez pictures in it?

Sorry: I must confess, Maurice is meticulous with his books and actually has directories at the rear telling you how many pictures there are of the various models of Ferrari, Drivers and circuits so it was not really difficult.
Also there are quite a number of colour plates in the book For me, however, the best photo in the book is on page 106 showing the elegant Count Innocente Biaggo in his grey suit, white shirt and black bow tie trying to dig his 775MM berlinetta - which he shared with Porfirio Rubirosa - out of a sandbank. This was motor racing as it once was. He even has a white handkerchief sticking out of his top pocket and, as usual for an Italian, his shirt cuffs extend beyond his sleeves.

Ahem... that's normal for an Englishman too, old chap!

It couldn't be that Scots save money by having shorter shirt sleeves, could it? ;)

Sorry, but is it in French only?

Of topic but Scots are OK! Here I'm holding my favourite one:

Ahem, you could be right about we Scots and our shirts. And by the way the Louche book is in French and English so no problem.

Sounds pretty irresistible, but any feeling for how much financial angst it'll cause me?

That´s amazing!
Isn´t that a Ferrari 500 Mondial (the snow pic)?

In 1954 or 55...me and my one year younger brother (9 and 10)...lived in Ljusdal in Sweden.
And late in the evening we knew a Ferrari was going to drive by. (although at the time I don´t think we were aware it was a Ferrari).
Later I´ve learned that a man by the name: Valdemar Stener...living in Färila...not far from Ljusdal...had a Ferrari 500 Mondial.

Amazing what pops up!

By the way I spoke with Maurice Louche this morning and he said he has been encouraged by the response to the book. He confirmed there are 1007 photographs in it.

He remarked that if any TNF readers wanted a signed copy he would be happy to arrange this. His fax/telephone number is (0033) 4.90.57.40.82. Exercise your French as he does not speak English.

"Bonsoir monsieur Louche,

Voulez vous signez mon exemplaire personellement?

Merci en avance"

Havent got a clue how this translates in phonetics. Sorry.

I spoke to M Louche this afternoon to order a copy. He speaks English and understands if, as he requests, you speak slowly and clearly to him. This sounds awfully patronising. It is not meant to be. The price is 145 euros plus 14 euros p&p.

Fax him, as Graham has said above, with your details and credit card number.

He is delighted with the very positive review in C&SC by Mick Walsh

It sounds as if this book will make the classic trio with the DCN/Geoff Goddard/Palawan "Ferrari in Camera" and Klementaski's Ferrari book.

I assume this has been resolved since then?

I'm not exactly a Ferrari nut, but I think this book is really a nice thing to have.

Nope, it sounds as the gentleman is trying to be accommodative. :)

Wolf, I was trying to excuse any interpretation of my description of M. Louche's co operation and desire to be of assistance as being seen as patronising. I was not implying that he was patronising. He was most charming and helpful. I had begun my conversation in French, asking if there was any possibility of speaking in English, and he was quite happy to continue in English, otherwise I would have continued in his own language.

Sorry for mixup I may have created- I thought my comment was applicable in both interpretations (in this case- that You made it clear he was being helpful, and didn't sound patronizing at all).

Is there an adress where I can send my details and credit card numbers or just by phone?
I want it bad, and still might catch something I didn't know in time for the Rodríguez bio which I am finishing for publication this summer.

www.libreriadellautomobile.it is the place where I got my copy. Costs 139 Euros plus 18.50 shipment costs (to the Netherlands).

My copy arrived this morning. It is brilliant, superbly finished and 20 Euros less than I posted above. Well recommended, not only for the Ferraris shown, but other interesting marques.

Sorry for my late reaction, but I just have to. Received my copy last week, with personal inscription in the book as requested. What a great book! I have many books (100+) on Ferrari, magazines I lost count. But this book does give great Ferrari pictures, many I never saw. Can' t really say I miss one pic, bar one of the great Tazio behind the wheel of a Ferrari. Its in my top five Ferrari books.

Sorry for this plug, just had to. By the way, Mr. Louche is very approachable. Speaks english and seems to sit next to the phone.
