There are some strange ones, let's face it!

But one that's just become evident to me must surely have a story behind it:

EDDIE NONA CHEEVER

How about some others?

Simply a dig at America's most prolific GP driver. Not championship material but certainly an "achiever".

Mine (like yours Ray) is my name!

Mine was choosen when I was reading an article about the IMS pavement. Since I'm a fan of champ/indy cars, it looked a good choice.

But I sign all my posts with my real name too.

My username is dedicated to a promising race driver that never earned the money to make it much further than his driveway throughout his driving career, unless you count the library.

Zakeriath Racing was going to be my own racing team, I have got no idea where the name came from, but its one that stuck with me. 001 was a Fiat 1500, 002 was going to be a FF Lotus 61, but the owner wouldnt reduce his price and my Dad wouldnt pay any more.

Maybe one day.

Some of the weird and wonderful user names people choose are fascinating, especially when you find out the reason for them. One thing, however, I do wish people wouldn't do is adopt the name of a famous racing personality who is still alive - one logs on and sees the name and thinks 'My God - it's him!!! Amazing!! Oh - no it's not. Bugger!!'

mine's easy! It was my user name on the computer system when I worked for Mr Ecclestone at Formula One Management, then I used it as my user name on Ebay, then I couldn't be bothered to remember a new user name and password, I dread to think how many you need these days!

Fester, as in the old Adams Family TV show (something to do with being foliclly challenged), is the given callsign (nickname)all fighter pilots aquire over a period of time and 82 was the football number (American vs. the rest of the world) I wore. Like f1steveuk, I had used it for EBay too.

Likewise, a name I have used on various other websites. St. Hubbins is the patron saint of quality footwear, if you believe in semi-fictitious heavy metal bands that is.

My user name is my initials, Vladimir Walter Vitez, plus it's short and symetrical. I usually just go by Walt. I only use Vladimir for official documents. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I float around here too! I got my name from an episode of The Blackadder - The Queen of Spain's Beard. Jim Broadbent played an interpreter called Don Speekingleesh. I had been reading the book of scripts I have when I was signing up to a forum about 5 years ago, and that's where I got the name from. Use it on any site I visit now.

The best I've ever come up with have been obscure movie or television show characters, or even just names that were mentioned. I've occasionally been "Artie Morty", "Kal Varnsen" or "Bob Sackamano". But I'm not clever, so I don't.

Does anyone remember a game on the bbc micro. I think it was revs revs revs by geoff crammond but it might well have been something else. Anyway it was a psuedo f1 race game and the names of all the drivers were like that. I think Hugh Jenjin was one in fact.

My favourite was Indy Pits
but there was also Gloria Slap, Max throttle, Johnny turbo. the last two don't work so well obviously but it may help jog memories of others.

For the record, I first used mine on xbox live, where you'll currently find me on toca 3 from time to time. It was taken from a poster in my room (my avatar) to create a slightly sort of menacing, dastardly name for sneaking to a win. Just seemed obvious to carry it over, and I use it on other forums too. I think it important to have a consistent psyeudonym online to prevent schizophrenia and forgetting your login id.

Willy Swerve, Hugh Jengine, Miles Behind and Peter Out - I found these by Googling (no idea if they are correct)

Norfolk & Good. Are they related to Norfolk & Chance and Norfolk & Whey.

I think it is the firm of Eye, Cheetam and Howe that represent him.

There is a genuine law firm called Wright Hassall.

There is one, or used to be one, called Hall-Wright and Co. I always hoped that the founding partner was called R. Hugh.

I had the Commodore 64 version of Revs, the first truly realistic racing game (the first that could be described as a simulator without falling under watchful eye of the Trades Descriptions Act).

I still have the manual (at a loss to explain why) and the full list of drivers is:-

Max Throttle
Gary Clipper
Desmond Dash
Johnny Turbo
Percy Veer
Davey Rocket
Gloria Slap
Wilma Cargo
Sid Spoiler
Harry Fume
Hugh Jengine
Dan Dipstick
Willy Swerve
Billy Bumper
Roland Slide
Rick Shaw
Miles Behind
Slim Chance
Peter Out

Bang on. Thanks to you and geoff.
Percy, wilma, willy (eddie's forebear), roland, miles, slim and peter were my favourites, with gloria as well of course. I think I actually used to call myself indy pits, having got the name from a motorbike game of the same or slightly earlier vintage. (Now try digging that up!;) )

It was a great game. As were all the following F1's by Geoff Crammond on the PC's. Still can't get a game that drove as well as those. Or positioned the driver/player in the right position, so you were looking thru the drivers eyes.

A modder for GP3 has created a patch that lowers the cockpit view to an even more realistic position. Make it harder to drive accurately as the view is far less panoramic.

*Edit* Sorry, thought we were in the Sims forum then.
