But one that's just become evident to me must surely have a story behind it:
EDDIE NONA CHEEVER
How about some others?

Some of the weird and wonderful user names people choose are fascinating, especially when you find out the reason for them. One thing, however, I do wish people wouldn't do is adopt the name of a famous racing personality who is still alive - one logs on and sees the name and thinks 'My God - it's him!!! Amazing!! Oh - no it's not. Bugger!!'

I float around here too! I got my name from an episode of The Blackadder - The Queen of Spain's Beard. Jim Broadbent played an interpreter called Don Speekingleesh. I had been reading the book of scripts I have when I was signing up to a forum about 5 years ago, and that's where I got the name from. Use it on any site I visit now.

Oh for crying out loud.....Huw Jadvantich...I only just got that! If I was cleverer, Id like to have a clever handle. The best I've ever come up with have been obscure movie or television show characters, or even just names that were mentioned. I've occasionally been "Artie Morty", "Kal Varnsen" or "Bob Sackamano". But I'm not clever, so I don't.

Does anyone remember a game on the bbc micro. I think it was revs revs revs by geoff crammond but it might well have been something else. Anyway it was a psuedo f1 race game and the names of all the drivers were like that. I think Hugh Jenjin was one in fact.
My favourite was Indy Pits
but there was also Gloria Slap, Max throttle, Johnny turbo. the last two don't work so well obviously but it may help jog memories of others.
For the record, I first used mine on xbox live, where you'll currently find me on toca 3 from time to time. It was taken from a poster in my room (my avatar) to create a slightly sort of menacing, dastardly name for sneaking to a win. Just seemed obvious to carry it over, and I use it on other forums too. I think it important to have a consistent psyeudonym online to prevent schizophrenia and forgetting your login id.

Willy Swerve, Hugh Jengine, Miles Behind and Peter Out - I found these by Googling (no idea if they are correct)

Norfolk & Good. Are they related to Norfolk & Chance and Norfolk & Whey.
I think it is the firm of Eye, Cheetam and Howe that represent him.

There is one, or used to be one, called Hall-Wright and Co. I always hoped that the founding partner was called R. Hugh.

I had the Commodore 64 version of Revs, the first truly realistic racing game (the first that could be described as a simulator without falling under watchful eye of the Trades Descriptions Act).
I still have the manual (at a loss to explain why) and the full list of drivers is:-
Max Throttle
Gary Clipper
Desmond Dash
Johnny Turbo
Percy Veer
Davey Rocket
Gloria Slap
Wilma Cargo
Sid Spoiler
Harry Fume
Hugh Jengine
Dan Dipstick
Willy Swerve
Billy Bumper
Roland Slide
Rick Shaw
Miles Behind
Slim Chance
Peter Out

Bang on. Thanks to you and geoff.
Percy, wilma, willy (eddie's forebear), roland, miles, slim and peter were my favourites, with gloria as well of course. I think I actually used to call myself indy pits, having got the name from a motorbike game of the same or slightly earlier vintage. (Now try digging that up!;) )
It was a great game. As were all the following F1's by Geoff Crammond on the PC's. Still can't get a game that drove as well as those. Or positioned the driver/player in the right position, so you were looking thru the drivers eyes.

A modder for GP3 has created a patch that lowers the cockpit view to an even more realistic position. Make it harder to drive accurately as the view is far less panoramic.
*Edit* Sorry, thought we were in the Sims forum then.
