can we PLEASE stop using the word 'tribute' in these threads??? I thought Derek had shuffled off this mortal coil for one horrible moment.

Scared the unmentionable out of me, too. Inevitably, some of us non-native English speakers will get our underwear in a twist on an English speaking forum from time to time, I think it is good for all concerned if this is pointed out - preferably, in a civil and humourous way.

First of all he is 'Derek", not 'Dereck'. Second, when you pay tribute to a great driver
would you please write his name with a capital letters?

To be fair to the original poster (and at risk of straying someway O/T), could someone please quote a recognized English dictionary which specifies that 'tribute', in that context, is only applicable in relation to a deceased person? Where does that restricted usage come from?

(... and before anyone picks me up on it, 'recognized' - with a z - is entirely correct for a UK-based English writer)

Having used English for almost 60 years, for much of that time on a professional basis, might I first say that group 7's use of the term "tribute" is a perfectly correct one
Unfortunately however, the term is used more often than not these days as in "tributes are pouring in for the world-famous footballer Joe Bloggs, who died yesterday".
It's got to the stage that it is assumed when the word "tribute" appears that the subject has died

Forget the semantics and just enjoy the pictures. Well worth seeing to my mind.

In one of those pics there is, what looks like, a 917 with a full width rear wing between two JW cars. I don't recogize that - can anyone say which car it is?

That picture was taken at Watkins Glen 1971, the CanAm race where the 917K could participate. The green car in between the Gulf Porsches is David Piper's 917.
I'm pretty sure there's another car right behind the Piper car so that it looks like the 917 has a huge rear wing.

It says 'Shadow' on it, I think.

Ah yes! I have now moved back to my regular large monitor, and all is clear, Shadow and all!

Thanks guys; that wing just didn't ring true...

But according to Pete Lyons' book that's Attwood in front with Bell in #93.

And surely the green 917 must be Cabral?

Nice "tribute" to Dinger. Whose he talking to in the '68 Monza shot?
