I agree hence my query. I guess a GTO or a 250 LM you could drive from Cherbourg or somewhere.

The Le Mans winning 250 lm was transported on an open double deck transporter ( Fiat ) , the same truck appears to have been used in 67 also , so presumably it was rented in Italy ,wiil come back with picture references , ALM AUTOMODELLI in Italy make a model of it .

Try searching for info on the "Great Ferrari Walkout" and then follow some of the links in the various scraps of info from there.
ATS would be another good start for more info on Chinetti. He took great knowledge and experience to the team.
Should be able to build up your own History from there, and its much more interesting

To hazard a guess should not the question be how did he transport them away from Le Mans. The most likely scenario being that he bought new cars from Ferrari and disposed of them after wards, he was after all a dealer. We've already been toldabout the Italian transporter.

Sorry, i'm waffling on about Carlo Chiti, and you wanted to know about Luigi Chinetti. That'll teach me to read the post properly :(

Dont worry, I took your advice and searched around down the byways of the net to good effect. I did,nt realise for example that NART ceased ops in 1982 according to one reference I read.

Bjorn,
In 1967 the three 412Ps of NART, Filipinetti and Maranello Concessionaires all arrived on the same transporter from Ferrari, where they had been race-prepared and had their ZF gearboxes replaced by Ferrari P4 type 603 'boxes:

But NART also ran their old P2/3 that year, so I don't know about other transporters.....

What an interesting period picture also showing support vehicles and a typical 1960s paddock backdrop, just the sort of thing that many would like to see in books but they rarely appear.

Great post Macca, got any more?

Superb photo , more please , but un TNF Transporter , please.
Edward you were right , this Fiat also took the NART winng LM to LeMans in 1965 ,car21(not26 as I thought.).Which lead me to believe suggestions that NART NOT had their own , being transported by Ferrari or rented as the pic shows. Bjørn

I had the good fortune to work for Luigi Chinetti/ NART at LeMans 1962: young (24) and naive, I simply walked up and asked if they could use a volunteer gopher. "Sure!" was the reply. (Try doing that today!)

A most memorable week, capped by working the race at the signalling pits, located just after the Mulsanne turn.

The following year, I did the same for Briggs Cunningham.

Simpler times...

Bjorn Kjer,
They are 412 Ps. This is factory nomenclature for single cam cars. There was no factory designation of P3/4. Both P3s and P4s had dohc heads.

Many of the cars the NART used were sent from America to Europe to be reconditioned at the factory beforte Le Mans and taken by the factory transporters (yes many of those) to the french track where Chinetti would meet them and just get them through the inspections and stuff.
Other times, they were bought directly by the team as available on Ferrari and also taken by the official transporters to Le Mans.
Example. Pedro Rodríguez used the TR330 in late 1962 in America and it was sent back to Maranello in the spring of 1963 to be reconditioned at the factory and then given to NART at Le Mans, where Pedro got the PP in it.
The older cars were fitted with newer parts and engines therefore some P2/P3 denominations, the 250/275 cars, the 330/365 and some 412P instead of being full P4s and all that stuff which confuses historians to the max.

N.A.R.T. transporter at Bridgehampton, early Sunday morning, September 20th, 1964 - practice for Race II of the Double 500 held later in the day. And note the Ford Country Squire to the right. It was also used by the team.
Pedro's getting a push and although it's hard to tell given the distance, that might be Scarfiotti standing next to his white/blue 330P.

I have a question about the Ferrari 275 GTB/4 entered by NART for the 1967 Le Mans 24 Hours. It was number 27 on the original entry list but did not appear. What do we know about its subsequent history?

As it didn't even appear we don't have a chassis number. So there is no way of knowing (AFAIK) which car they were thinking of entering, and therefore no way to know its subsequent history.
