Hello all,

I came across (french?) driver Antoine Cicoira who drove a Maserati GT (most likely the Zagato coupé #2107) in the Coupe d`Automne (GT-class) 1956 on September 23.

On the same day Benoit Musy died in a Maserati 200S (#2407) in the Sports Car class. #2407 was owned by Cicoira and Musy had borrowed it.

Has anybody photos of both cars on that tragic day (yes, I have seen the website of Musy`s son with photos of the car his father drove that day. I am looking for different photos.)

Also, does anybody know of an archive that covers the 1000 km Paris and the Coup d`Automne-races from that period?

Many thanks.

Ciao!
Walter

Hi Walter

As you say, in the Coupes d'Automne on 23.9.1956, Cicoira drove a Maserati, and, according to Martin Krejci's site, won the race for GT2.0+TS2.0+T2.0.

However, apparently Benoit Musy died in a Maserati 200S (#2407) in the Coupe du Salon on 7.10.1956, the same race in which Louis Rosier was also killed. In the book, "Louis Rosier, Une Vie Extraordinaire" by Pascal Legrand, there is a photo on page 137 showing the starting grid for this race, including "Benoît Musy à droite de Louis." According to Martin Krejci's site, on this day, Cicoira drove a Maserati to sixth in the GT/T+1.3 class. As for the 1000 km Paris, in the Legrand book, there is a photo on page 133 showing the winning Maserati 300S, which they say is chassis 3055, and a photo on page 134 showing the winning drivers, Rosier and Behra. There is also a paragraph about this race. But nothing in this book about the Coup d'Automne race from 1956.

Just to add that a Cicoira resurfaced in 1962 with Ferrari 250 GT SWB "2127 GT". According to Jess Pourret's book, he was then living in Dakar, in the newly independant Senegal.

Hi Vince,
many thanks. Unfortunately I don`t have the Legrand-book. Can you scan me the photo and send it privately (wbaeumer1photo@aol.com)?
Yes, the winning 300S in the 1000 km was #3055. The Cicoira-car in the Coupes d`Automne was most likely an A6G-2000 Zagato. I assume it was #2107 but -of course- can`t prove that without more infos/photos.

Ciao!

ERault, he was a somewhat mysterious person. Any photos of him is very sought after by me!

A photo of Antoine Cicoira's A6G/54 Zagato can be found in the book"Course de Côte de Turckheim-Trois Epis 1956 - 1994", written (in french) by Christian Courtel around Adolphe Conrath's wonderful photos.

At the time Cicoira raced his Maserati Zagato Coupé there was a similar car hillclimbing in the French speaking part of Switzerland. Its driver ran under the pseudonyme "Ferral". Nobody seems to know anything about him. Could it be that there is only one Maserati Zagato Coupé involved and that Cicoira was "Ferral"? The story about Musy's borrowed Maserati 200S would fit in well.
