Valles leaves FMSI teams towards reshufflements

FMSI had another important change right before the Istanbul race, as the team broke up with Spaniard Adrian Valles, leaving an empty spot. Valles is rumored at BCN, but the team lines-up Paolo Nocera and Milos Pavlovic. In the meantime, fellow former FMSI driver Andy Soucek is evaluating a chance at Super Nova, where Christian Bakkerud is experiencing back pains after Barcelona. At DPR's Ricci isn't yet confirmed at DPR.

Given all the aero doo-dads on modern Gp2 cars, and the Force India paintjob, and the relative pace of the cars; you could forgive Giancarlo for getting confused Friday morning

I hope Parente can finish on the podium at least once this weekend again!

There was a link last weekend to a site where we could watch the ITV4 coverage, will there be a live broadcast this weekend too?

The austro-spanish race driver Andy Soucek will make his comeback in the GP2 Series next weekend at Istanbul Park circuit, racing for the british Team Super Nova Racing.
Soucek will replace the dane Christian Bakkerud, who injured his back during the first race of the 2008 season at Barcelona circuit, and has not been able recover in time for the Istanbul event.

In other news, Ferrari to be quite quick in the F1 race!

It's not that brave a prediction is it? :)

Istanbul - Ricci confirmed at DPR, Nocera and BCN part ways

Giacomo Ricci will be back at DPR Racing at Istanbul. The driver from Milan left Italy today to continue replace injured Michael Herck at DPR. In the meantime, Paolo Nocera and BCN mutually decided to part ways for good after just one race. The Spanish team is set to announce Spaniard Adrian Valles.

Mirrors to move back to the cockpits at Monte Carlo

The mirrors position will change before Monte Carlo, as the current position, over the sidepods, created some problems to the drivers. Since the first seasonal tests at Le Castellet, several of them, including Honda test-driver Luca Filippi, asked the GP2 Series' technical director Didier Perrin for a change.

I hope to see him finish the championship and fights for the title.

Anyway Valles in GP2 Asia and during the first round in Spain underperformed...

I think Valles did very well in GP2 Asia, he just had some share of bad luck (having Buemi crashing into him while he led a race, having the car breaking down, etc). But yes, his Barcelona weekend was crap.

Soucek is going to be an interesting challenge for Parente, he hasn't had a decent team-mate in a couple years, lets see how he handles the situation.

It is also going to be interesting to see just how well will Filippi do this weekend, after all he's good in Istanbul, he had the pole last year. Something's wrong if he can't be quick this weekend again.

I hope too.

Fisichella Motor Sport International announced that Adam Carroll, who won two GP2 Series races for the Italian squad in 2007, will return to the team ahead of this weekend's race at the Istanbul circuit in Turkey, round two of the 2008 GP2 Series. Adam will replace Adrian Valles, who raced for the team at the opening round in Barcelona. Adam is confirmed to drive for FMSI for the next two rounds in Istanbul and Monaco, the tricky street race being the venue of his outstanding 2005 race win.

Adam has five GP2 victories to his name, with two of those coming last season with FMSI. He scored a further three podium finishes in 2007, finishing the season in a strong seventh place in the drivers' championship, despite missing the first five races.

Since the conclusion of last year's GP2 Series, Adam has been competing in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport for Team Ireland. The 25-year-old from Portadown, Northern Ireland, made history in March by notching up the nation's first ever victory at the Mexico City race. He also scored four further podiums throughout the 2007/08 season. The FMSI driver line-up for the remainder of the 2008 GP2 Series season will be announced following the mid-season test at Paul Ricard, France in June.

So this is the new entry list

1 Karun Chandhok - iSport International
2 Bruno Senna - iSport International
3 Luca Filippi - ART Grand Prix
4 Romain Grosjean - ART Grand Prix
5 Vitaly Petrov - Barwa International Campos Team
6 Benjamin Hanley - Barwa International Campos Team
7 Andy Soucek - Super Nova Racing
8 Alvaro Parente - Super Nova Racing
9 Jerome D'Ambrosio - DAMS
10 Kamui Kobayashi - DAMS
11 Javier Villa - Racing Engineering
12 Giorgio Pantano - Racing Engineering
14 Sebastien Buemi - Trust Team Arden
15 Yelmer Buurman - Trust Team Arden
16 Davide Valsecchi - Durango
17 Alberto Valerio - Durango
18 Roldan Rodriguez - FMS International
19 Adam Carroll - FMS International
20 Mike Conway - Trident Racing
21 Ho-Pin Tung - Trident Racing
22 Andreas Zuber - Piquet Sports
23 Pastor Maldonado - Piquet Sports
24 Giacomo Ricci - DPR
25 Diego Nunes - DPR
26 Adrian Vallès - BCN
27 Milos Pavlovic - BCN

I'm so glad for Carroll.
I've had two favourite drivers from the "lower" series for years, Parente and Carroll. It's good to finally see them together in GP2, I so hope he gets a seat for the rest of the season.

It's great to see Adam back!!! Bravo, Fisico  What makes me wonder is why Carroll wasn't given the drive earlier this year, why wasn't he allowed to participate in the Asia Series? In the car that the Irishman new quite well and in the team, which he had got used to, I really think that he could have finished second in the title race behind Grosjean. I don't really think he could have beaten the Roman, as the Frenchman was definitely in the ebst team out there. I hope Adam gets a long-term contract to do GP2 and then gets picked by one of the F1 teams. IHMO, he really deserves it.

With Soucek and Carroll back, I think overall this has become a really strong field... definitely more competitive than last year. Plenty of talented rookies, and plenty of promising guys that were already there and will benefit from the extra experience.

Exactly.

He had the Ireland A1GP drive, so probably didn't want to do GP2 Asia.

I believe ART gave up quite a lot of money to run no Asians (Minardi Piquet too), which obviously means the drivers need to bring more, making it, as I said, harder.

Pantano on pole, ahead of Zuber, Carroll, Grosjean, Senna and Maldonado.

Great return by Carroll, directly into the top 3. Has he even tested this car before?

Valsecchi had a big shunt at the end of the session, similar to Kovalainen in Barcelona. I hope he's ok, at least the cameras shown him talking to the marshalls.

Parente and Kobayashi spun and stalled early, and will start from 21st and 22nd respectively. Filippi is another big disappointment, 18th?! What's up with that?

Valsecchi has suspect vertebra fracture

According to the latest news, Davide Valsecchi appears to have reported a compression fracture of the L2 vertebra. If the news will find a confirmation, the Italian would be kept from racing for weeks and, despite the evidence that the har haven't braked, Durango didn't yet disclose the reason of the impact.

1. Pantano
2. Grosjean, like, a zillion seconds behind
3. Zuber, glued to Grosjean's back
4. Chandhok
5. ??

Parente, Kobayashi and some else have DNFd. Senna had to come to the pits at the first lap and is way way behind.

I've been out for a while and I suddenly find so many changes! I'm SO glad to see Carroll back. This kid has a huge talent. Good job for Valles in his first kilometres with BCN. He will take the team a step ahead, though I feel sorry for Nocera, I had good expectations on him. I'm still surprised by the lack of qualy pace for Arden.

Pantano wins and jumps into the lead of the championship. 2nd is Grosjean, 3rd Zuber.

Boring race.
