Sutil the victim of blackmail
10,000 Euros for old hard drive
08/05/08 10:31

German F1 driver Adrian Sutil enlisted the help of police after the owner of his old computer tried to blackmail him for 10,000 Euros.

The magazine Auto Bild Motorsport will reveal in its Friday edition that a person from the German state of Bavaria came into the possession of a computer containing an abundance of the 25-year-old Force India driver's private information.

In return for 10,000 Euros, the man offered to return the hard drive to Sutil, containing private emails, photos and bank transactions.

The blackmailer, who now faces a maximum penalty of five years in jail, was caught by police after a meeting was set up to exchange the money and data.

"I am glad that it is all over now," Sutil commented to the German newspaper Bild-Zeitung.

Just did a search on eBay for "alonso laptop" but no luck :rotfl:

Seriously, not good for Sutil but he dealt with it, bad guy loses  .

Hopefully he'll have a better weekend, not crash into anyone and have a good race.

The most valuable would be Michael Schumacher's computer which has the direct connection with Maranello headquarters and testing tracks. That's where the bodies are buried

Don't you know that even if you delete the files and format the HD, the data is fully there?
You need special programs to fully clean a HD.

One of his personal sponsors is Medion computers, maybe he's making a bit of money on the side by selling those crappy computers he was given on the Net.

Sutil said his father threw his computer away...not very clever to leave your 'whole life' on it as the driver explained...

Such is just the tip of the iceberg. Anyone who deals with this stuff in his job will know that the complete carelessness of people regarding their own digital data is mindblowing. Even if something is aptly named "Recycle bin", some people don't understand why their files are still there... :drunk:

Yeah, many people may not know a lot about how these things work (me), so if you're about to get rid of a pc (especially being well known) you better demolish the hard disk at first !

Absolutely. As Oho suggested, a bit of old fashioned physical violence will always do the trick.

If in doubt, punch it. Hard...;)
