"Teams which design and develop their own drive train (usually manufacturer teams) must be prepared to supply a complete and fully competitive drive train to an independent team at very low cost"

Reading Max s letter im not sure what a drive chain is, might be a stupid question but could someone help me out please.

Huh? How will that work? Say for example Ferrari has the best drive train in the business, wont they be overwhelmed? And how will the 'very low cost' be arrived at? I think Maxx is losing it LOL.

I think it would be to 'a drive train' to 'a team'. Ferrari already supply two, so they wouldn't have to do it a third time.

Renault already supply red bull so they wouldn't, nor would toyota. BMW, Honda and McLaren would though.

Overall the letter is excellent. The problem is that Max has been saying such things for years - but he's never been able to make effective - ie for the good - change. F1 needs leadership able to make the the keys changes.

Drive train or drive chain?

A drivetrain is engine+transmission. AFAIK

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a gearbox have a pretty serious impact in terms of design on the rest of the car?

Max is trying to turn F1 into a spec series without paying a damn cent for a standard chassis.

http://en.wikipedia....iki/Drive_train

In a motor vehicle, the term drivetrain, powertrain or powerplant refers to the group of components that generate power and deliver it to the road surface, water, or air. This includes the engine, transmission, driveshafts, differentials, and the final drive (drive wheels, caterpillar track, propeller, etc.)

I think old spanky is wrong, the teams will just spend what they can, if sponsors start to pull out then they will spend less, let them sort it out.

None of Maxxx's business if you ask me, if Ferrari want to spend 600mill euro then let them, it's their money to spend.
