An update from something posted very early on the board.

Mako that is in Northern NSW.
Posted Image
I've found the original owner of this car now, John Willoughby, he actually bought this car off John Moxon when he was acting a broker for Formula Vees. It did two races in John Willoughby's hands the last Warwick Farm Meeting and an Amaroo meet and that's it.

This is the Concept that is missing in Victoria since 2003.
Posted Image
Still Missing

This is the Avanti that was rescued from the scrap metal recyclers and now being restored.
Posted Image
This car is now C of D'ed and owned by Edward Gavin

This is the car I saw at the Bathurst Hill climb run by Peter Thomas in 1996 and never saw again
Posted Image
This a Lamco now owned by John Lawson and is sitting in shed not doing much.

As I said earlier "I'm sure there are plenty more out there."

Dad doesn't remember acting as a 'broker' - he might have pointed a new enthusiast in Frank Kleinig's direction maybe.

Is this car available?

Hi Bruce,

Yes it was available, but I haven't been able to contact the current owner and tell him the good news (about tracking down and confirming John Wolloughby as previouis owner) .... phone number changed, no answer to email and no response sending a message Facebook, then again he has a new baby in the family.

Regards,

Ian

Thanks for putting those up.

In the top shot I think its 7. Greg McCombie 27. Paul McCurdy 39. MJMiller 21. L Campfield
In the lower shot is 9. Paul McCurdy closely followed by Jim Evans Denis Riley and L Campfield

Thanks Paul, but I only started in 1974, so not me.... Looks like the Max Coulter car

1981 is Historical?

I can't believe the owner was too lazy to get the car out of the trailer to photograph it for the eBay listing!

I own a standfast 1966 formula vee which was first owned by Aub Revell.
Does any one have some photo's / information on this car so I can restore it.
The car is missing some body work. The butchers have got to it over the years.
cheers Tim

Hi Tim, the best example of a Standfast kicking around is John Murphy's see image below.

The builder of the Standfast John Grant might be a good person to talk to also.

The Historic Formula Vee Associated has the moulds for the top and sides but not the rear.

WOW!

That's fantastic news. Have you contacted the Historic Formula Vee people? (www.historicveeaustralia.com) They have access to things like body moulds.

Otherwise, there is a Standfast or two kicking around. And John Grant is still around too - always good to get answers from the creator, right?

Are you on Facebook? There are heaps of pictures on there too - search for 'historic formula vee'.

Do you know the car's history after Aub had it?

Thanks for writing back to me.
I have made contact in the past with John Grant . He was no help at all and only wanted to know if I would sell it to him.
Did make contact with Historic Vee club and they didn't have the information I was after. They wanted to know if I had any info for them.
What I am after is a photo of the car when it was first raced by Aub Revell.
Kind regards
Tim

Hi Tim

Photos, your best bet is to talk to David Blanch from Autopics

Aub and the Standfast is car number 4 in the right of the photo.

Okay, a quick quiz. You are 1000km from home, you have just finished the first practice session, you find metal flakes in the oil, your entire crew have hangovers, what do you do?

Kerry Calderbank at Surfers Paradise... I don't remember the year - in fact I don't remember much of the whole trip! Might it have been a 'Nationals'?

Did you go over see Alan Birmingham and ask to borrow an engine ? (I see the Ranger in the background).

Or Keith Franks - that's his 'St George and Sutherland Trophies' transporter.

You'd have to think it was a Nationals.

It's not totally clear from the banner but it looks like 1981

Posted Image
I am having more flashbacks it may have been that we called it quits after practice and retired to console ourselves. We figured we had run the fan belt too loose and over-cooked the motor but someone during the evening suggested we had come so far and why not throw a couple of cans of oil treatment in and hope for the best. We also started to fabricate some extra air intake scoops out of XXXX cans but that degenerated into a debacle. The photo suggests Kerry made the grid but I don't know what happened in the race... Great days.

Doug Angus won from the back of the grid after breaking a throttle cable 1st lap of qualifying & everybody had to agree for him to get a start.... wonder if that would happen today??, Another one that got away from me with cooked generator bearings, Steve Cramp set the altitude record after tangling with a spinning Damon under the bridge at around 5700rpm in 4th, actually we stayed in top the whole way!

Yep the G.A.D.

David Clifford bought that car recently and is restorting it. The beam is prevented from twisting by the long rods going to the shock mounts.

Regards,

Ian
[/quote
The G.A.D. I think that's the car he built after the Tripps. Obviously a small footed guy like anyone who drove something like the Mawer F Ford I suppose.
Funny how much it seemed tall drivers were up against it in the 60'and 70's. I'm 6ft 2 1/2 and there was no way I would have fitted into a Rennmax mk 1or a Nota vee for length let alone trying to fit size 12 feet into a pedal area of something like that.

This is indeed the car I have purchased. Not a great deal has been done to it as yet.

If anybody has any information/photos that they could share I would be eternally greatful.

It is my intention to get it back (as close as practical) to looking as it does in the photo. Then get it back on the track, which could be interesting seeing as I am 6ft 2in.

Cheers
David

Just to let you know that Historic Formula Vees are more than welcome to compete at the Historic Easter Mallala meeting. Entries close this Friday. Head to the Sporting Car Club SA website - Documents and you will find the forms there. Would be great to see some racing as well as those already entered in Regularity

Annie Oz,
Would there be any chance to get a bit of advance notice next time?
We had a small group of historic Vees racing at Winton last year, had more than 20 at the Tasman last November, fielded a good bunch at Wakefield in February and have a group heading to Queensland Lakeside to take part in the 50th Anniversary meeting in late May.
If you could send details to me a few months prior to the event I am more than happy to broadcast it among the membership of HFVAA
You will find my contact details at http://www.historicv...om/contact.html

This is not nostalgia racing but nothing has changed the feeling in 40 odd years. You could really sense the driver's dilemma whether to attack the driver in front for fear of losing momentum and contact with the leaders, and how any hesitation cost a spot... Great stuff.

I was expecting this any minute but apparently they learnt their lesson in an earlier race.

Congratulation to all concerned. Glad to see the tradition lives on.

I have to send Zane some of the older stuff I have but for those who missed some of the 80's action.
