... Hadn't seen the Gavin Green crash where legs were broken/ funny how Mike Raymond re assured us that he was perfectly fine. I suppose still having a pulse was fine back then after a big one...

It was only one leg and only a flesh wound really... where a femur poked through! If you look carefully you can make out the ghostly underside image of Gavin's GAS as it flies backwards over the embankment

...watching Radtke and Paul McDonald was always a crowd pleaser....

No sound on this and the colour has disappeared - I don't know, you splash out $10 on high-tech equipment and it just dosen't perform.

I was in France watching Villeneuve and Arnoux carry on while all this was going back here!

I have the last meeting from this series but I'm having transfer issues.

Does anyone have the date/year information?

I've saved the best 'til last.

When I clipped Bill's spinning Rennmax I glanced in the rearview mirror and noticed a wobble in the left rear wheel. I wasn't going to give up a possible good finish so I pressed on but took it easy through the right-handers, i.e. every corner except Honda, and that's why Gavin gave me such a hard time. When I got back to the pits we checked the wheel and it was perfect ??? Turned out that the rearview mirror was loose - D'oh.

Mark was using the yellows to close up during this race (like we all did) but he ran into bearing trouble - Karma!

Great work Wirra!

Thank you Wirra for finding all these memories and making the effort to load them!!!! Was kinda competitive back then..... 1976 to 1980
BTW do you happen to have the August 1977 Amaroo on tape, I am really hoping you might have the sports car tourist trophy I was in with a strong chance in the Lotus 23b untill a trip over the rumble strip tore out the radiator & oil cooler. Up till then it was a carve up!
Cheers Greg

Greg, I borrowed the ARDC tapes, probably in the mid-80s, and made up VHS copies but only of the Vees. The tapes were something like a 2" broadcast format but luckily where I worked had such a player. IIRC someone has stated on TNF that those tapes have all gone missing.

The very first of my videos was actually on a Phillips tape which even preceded Beta and VHS. I had a mate in the ABC convert it for me to VHS but as you could see it's pretty well buggered now with so many changes of format. If you can find the ARDC tapes I'm sure the Powerhouse would have a player to convert them to whatever.

I still think someone should chase up Gavin to see if he has anything.

I recall that he had a bunch of the original format stuff. And a machine to play them on.

Yes fantastic Wirra thanks.
Great to see Terry Quartly, DB, Graham Engel and Peter Houston.

Bit of a longshot here and don't want to start a new topic but does anyone know the actual original chassis colour of an Elfin 500? I think it was a light grey but an actual colour name would be good.
Thanks DC

Yep, it was grey, David! It's a long time ago, but from memory I used 'Transformer Grey' to re-paint my 500 chassis. Keith Poole would probably know for sure.

Thanks Greg. I think originally the grey was even lighter than transformer grey. Going by the black and white photos in the Elfin book in the 500 section and the 500 chassis behind the mono it's fairly light. Theres also a colour photo around of BobYoung in one of the Bono 500s that is more towards white than black sort of grey. Anyway not big drama just trying to get it right!

Garrie would have been sure of that, I would think. Were they lighter than the colour of the 600 frames?

I suspect they would have been the same color[s] Though I show my youth,, the only 600 I have seen in bits was an historic. And I think it was grey. As Greg said meter box grey would have been close, though memory tells me it was a fairly special tough paint.
I reckon that when Keith made those frames they were black.

Thanks Lindsay - while there were no vehicle to vehicle incidents I noted that somehow the Armco at Ron Hodgson moved in a few inches inwards just prior to the last lap.

I hope someone posts other pics up on this thread soon, I'm worried I'm being seen as an owner-operator*!

Okay, previous owners of Peter's Elfin 500 before him were Larry Greenhalgh (TNFer?), Gary Clare, O’Brien & Alan Nelson
...Ian Lee

Bold added

I believe it was one of five ordered by Jack Bono, none of which carried serial numbers. I think it may have been the Vee Big Pete tried on at Catalina, although as Greg points out it has a different profile rollover bar. Gary Clare was quite tall, and I hope still is, and may have made the modification. Yes, to Bruce after me and then to Qld where, according to Bruce, it was written off.

Nice pic thank you very much for posting it.!

The Lamco should look like this next time you see it, I've already made the moulds and turned out a new body,
it will have a new rollbar in steel as well.
Plan is to fit it all up after the Cootamundra Sprints in two weeks.

Wondering if anyone knew where Bill Daly's Dalmac Vee was, I bumped into his son the other day.

Unfortunately Bill is no longer with us, Autopics have a few photos of the Dalmac in 1967 and 1968

Warwick Farm Tasman Meeting 1970....very ordinary, taken from behind the heads....but anyway.....
just because I can...

194.jpg

192.jpg

The car with the chequered nose is Colin Bond in Ray Jones' "Bardhal Vee". The race is the Warwick Farm round of the 1970 "Empi" Mini-Tasman series. My Nota is next followed by Enno Busselman's Trips. Possibly Neil Revell behind. :D :D

New one to me. Anyone have a photo of one?

When I was investigating Formula Vee circa 1967, Darryl Adams and I visted the TACO works at Seven :|  Hills. Ultimately, I bought the Prendergast Nota in bits and raced it quite successfully.

G'day, I,ve got a 1976 Rennmax Mk II chassis no. 8. The original owner was David Leikvold from NSW. It last raced at Lakeside in June 1995 when owned by Paul Barrett. The car spent the next 10 years in Pauls car dealership on display. I got it from a fellow in Penrith who had intended to go Historic but changed his plans, that was in December 06. I ran the car in 2007 at some GEAR meetings here in Qld but I haven't had the chance to run the car at all this year due to Sprite 50th anniversary commitments. My plan is to get an historic log book and race the car but as usual it comes down to time and priorities.

I hired David's Vee on several occasions for use in my (then) fledgling Racing Drivers' School. Peter Finlay

Standfast Vees were made by John Grant at Penshust Motors , there was certainly more than one made , very good cars , possibly five or so manufactured.

John will kill me for saying this but Standfasts were a refined clone of the Rennmax MK I. I drove Gary Campbell's car at W. Farm 1970. When I tested it at a W. Farm Club practice day, it had terminal understeer. I cured this by altering the front anti-roll bar in John Grant's workshop. The car was a gem and I wondered how long this had been going on.

It's in Queensland with Vernon McKay

I owned the ex-Bernie Haehnle Rennmax MK I (which he called the Hann-Rennmax). I bought it from the chap who ran it in Collier's colours and used it in my F.Vee school. It was totalled at Amaroo Park by a student who hired it for a race. I commissioned Harry Galloway to reconstruct the chassis using the pair of front  H-beam mounts as the basis, thus preserving the identity of the car. After having had the body resprayed in the Goodwin-Haehnle yellow colours and trimmings I sold it to a chap who, I believe, never raced it. I saw the car at the winter Eastern Creek HSRCA event and chatted to Phil Lewis and friends about it. I looked over the car and was able to identify many specific items which I recalled as being features of that specific machine.

That would be the 'Hahn-Rennmax Vee'...

Originally a CB Vee, of course, then all the CB owners adopted the Rennmax name because any time they needed anything they had to go and see Bob the Builder.
