Salut Doublos

I have alwys thought that the Bimota used by Jean-Marc Toffolo in 1979 ( same as the one in your picture above, then ) was the very same machine used by Michel Rougerie in 1978 . I haven't seen any other Bimota painted in those colours, which of course doesn't prove anything, but nevertheless .... see pics linked below on Manfred Mothes site

http://www.highsider...ffolo_79_01.htm
http://www.highsider...gerie_78_01.htm

Good morning Philippe,

I might be wrong but I remember that Jean-Marc went to Bimota factory to buy it (he had Italian origins, which helped), maybe it was a ex-Rougerie bike reconditioned ?

I've been there yasterday evening, and was surprised to find this picture, the guy near the Laverda is myself, I remember how great it was, our first bol d'or..

24 h later it was the only Laverda to finish the race, nevertheless I agree with the comment of pit lane, the graphism is awful, but it was not the main issue for Michel (co-owner of the shop who sponsored the bike, and also on the picture leaning on the bike with the Laverda jacket).

Coming back to J.M Toffolo, he was a excellent rider and a nice guy with a strong sense of humour. I don't know what he is doing now, maybe Leif has any clue ?

Yes Tony its Alain Terras (RIP) at Silverstone, the scorcher of a summer & weekend we had that year, perhaps that's why his sleeves are not done up, not sure about leg zip though it could be broken? no vented leathers in the old days not the safest way to ride back then, but the best way to stay cool maybe?

Not been on here before, Barry Sheene at Mallory Park 1975, before the days of the 'bus stop' & all the trees being cut down on the Shaws hairpin island, whats the latest on the Mallory Park story anyone know?

Wayne Dinham @ Brands Hatch May Bank Holiday King of Brands meeting 1975, with Ron Chandler on his TZ750, this was taken during practice, & was Ron Chandlers last outing as a "professional" rider, he put the bike in the back of his van shortly after this shot was taken in the morning, and retired from racing.

Yep - Gordon it is  .
I spoke to him at Aberdare two weeks ago - he's still as keen as ever. He has sold the original Crosby Moriwaki and is in the process of building another. He is scouring the planet for an original "Moriwaki Monster" racing fairing - either to buy, or to borrow to make a mould from. They are rarer than rocking-horse manure apparently!

It is, isn't it ? I'm not going to moan about the good old style and the way it was better before, since there's not much we can do about it,  but is there any way to choose an "alternate" environment like was the case on the previous software change ( where you could choose an "orange" environment which looked a little more like the old Atlas one...)

edit : ah, found it....click on the tiny "change theme" link at the veeeery bottom left of the page and tick "Atlas" . Well, it doesn't change much outside of the colour.....but at least it's orange

We haven't had one of these for a while.

Anyone know who this is? He is riding an original Petty-framed Manx in approximately 1974-75.

Hi Motard

No, not Dave Habel I'm afraid!

I remember the name though - didn't I see Dave Habel riding a Manx at a Brands Hatch Hutchinson 100 way back in the late sixties? Did you know him by any chance? I have a vague recollection of an orange and white Avon fairing with flowers or some pretty pattern painted on it. Does that ring a bell? (No, I haven't been drinking  !).

This particular rider did very well on this bike at club and National level, especially North Glos meetings and Mallory National-restricted meetings around 1973-75 and later switched to a Yamaha. I believe the bike was ex-Derek Best if that helps.

No, its not Ian Richards.

This chap is from the west country and after a few years on the Petty Manx, then a TZ350, he switched to a 125 - an MBA I think.

Morning chaps it's amazing what you can turn up on the net, I was searching for a TZ parts drawing and this popped up, my ex John Woodley North London M'cycles sponsored mk3, the caption says it's from April 82 but I think from the livery it was 81, if it's April then i'm guessing it was at the Transatlantic, anyone got a programme to confirm? I don't think it finished the day looking as good as that, IIRC I slung it down the road in the damp at Paddock in the shellsport race when I ran out of talent(easy for me)trying to stay with a certain Mr Ireland after a blinding start

cheers Martin

I'm a little concerned the way that posts have dropped off lately - I hope nobody has fallen off their perch!
Seems to have coincided with the change to the format (must admit, I don't like it much myself - and I can't get the emoticons to work either!).

Perhaps some of the once-frequent posters would care to drop by with an "I'm here" message or something?

:) Barry.

Hey, an emoticon! How did that happen?

Yes , Barry , the Forum , well , the posts always slow up during the European summer , and what a cracking summer it has been

I think there are several reasons the Forum has , for want of a better word gone ' stale '

To me , the fun went out about 2/3 years ago when various posters complained about the fun element and the amount of banter which to me , is all part of an interesting forum , you just cannot , and must not be serious all of the time as some would have done , yes , the boisterousness did go a little OTT at times , but didn't paddock banter do the same   ?? .

Not everyone wants to talk ' shop ' all of the time and discuss the serious merits of running 250 primary gears in your 350 TZ for instance , rather than the local ale houses in Douglas , all of which are relevant to our wonderful sport , which , like life is full of fun , happiness and tragedy .

The Forum itself has changed , which , I believe , most of us do not like , and I , for one , cannot even figure how to post a piccie  , and , a mutual friend has tried and failed to do just that  :well:

What the Forum doesn't seem to have , however , is the ego-trippers , which are so obviously prevalent on FB ,

I used to enjoy coming on this Forum , for a good mixture of information , piccies , fun and general piss-taking out of our fellow enthusiasts , however this seems to have disappeared , and i'm sure i'm not the only one to think along these lines ,

shame really , it used to be so good .................... :(
