Sorry John, I'm afraid I haven't.

Exit, stage left! Young Mr Brookes, I believe.

When Gerry was interviewed at Oulton, after the most entertaining race I have ever seen with RAC, he said "I've never seen anyone drive so badly and get away with it"! The two Escorts were hardly ever more than a few feet apart and always at wildly different angles to each other, yet they changed places I don't know how many times.

Must have done well as he is between the Two superstars.Think the dolly finished third or fourth ,just in front of Mr Dron.

Thanks Alan's for checking.

Seem to remember Tony Lanfrachi getting stopped by police for doing 100+(in a BMW?) on M6 around Keele area on hard shoulder when held up in a jam and getting away with it.

Does anyone have any photos of the Alfas in action? I am interested in the Stan Clark version as I was the co-driver!

1973 Team Award: Alfa Romeo

3rd John Handley/John Clegg

(Source AR advert, The Times, July 14th 1973)

1974 Triumph Dolomite Sprints 1st and 2nd in class, 4th and 5th overall. Drivers not quoted.

(Source BL advert The Times, October 22nd 1974)

Dates for 1975 August 1-3. Clark's winning car from 1974 was an Escort RS.

(Source The Times Dec 6th 1974)

1975 result:

There are two pics in the LAT Archive. One shows an unidentified BMW, the other James Hunt in the Vauxhall he shared with Noel Edmonds (yes - really!), both in 1976.

41 secs into this clip from Llandow in 1973 you can see two Rover P6's #25 & #28 the former almost certainly a V8 does anyone know who the drivers might have been ?

Looking through the whole clip seems manufacturers were still along way from understanding how to make cars handle properly, I guess driver skills were at a real premium back then.

#25 was entered and driven by Mike Howells with Kenneth Taylor as co-driver. #28 was entered and driven by Brian Field with William Jones as co-driver. Both cars are listed as Rover 3500S models.

Not related to the Tour but just a snippet of information. George Brown of "Nero" fame was a development engineer at Avon Rubber Co. According to my informant who was the son of a one time chairman of Avon. George would occasionally use Nero to get too and from work, my friend had a cottage on the route between the works and George's home and I am told pictures used to fall off the walls as the Vincent passed by.
