My understanding is that Skogmo aquired a 1953 Allard J2X from a Major Patton. Apparently the car was later donated to a high school workshop class from where, after 25 years, it was bought and restored by Tiwy Shenton of Tiwy's Autocraft of Vermont in 1994.

Does anyone know when Don Skogmo bought this car and did he own other Allards?

Was this a different car to the Allard J2X that was bought by Scott Beckett from Don Skogmo and, after much modification became the Lo-Test Special.

Skogmo owned several Allards but the car you describe is (reportedly) the J2X LeMans that became the Lo-Test Special: #3153.

Raoul: Here is the answer from Scotty Beckett

The Allard was brought into the U.S. by Major Patton. Story has it that he traded it to a Ford dealer in Wisconsin for a new T-Bird. This is probably fact because the car was spotted sitting on the showroom floor in Wisconsin by two of our members of the L.O.L. Region of SCCA. At that time there was a dealer of used sports cars in Minneapolis,Gene Jensen, at Tuesday Motors and when he was told of the car he immediately purchase it from the Ford dealer in Wisconsin.
At that time Don Skogmo was the owner of a very tired J2X and Gene called Don and Don purchased the J2X Lemans from Gene. I bought the car from Donny six months later and spent the next one to two years making it into the Lo-Test Special. I raced the car for two seasons and sold it in fall of "62". The second owner after me donated the car to Dunwoody Institute, a Vo-Tech school here in Minneapolis. It was then sold by Dunwoody and has since been restored back to a Lemans Allard and is now, as far as I know, in Germany

Don ran a lot of cars over the years. The Allards listed above, a D Jag, three Maserati T-61s, a Genie Mk 8, and finally the Lola T-70 in which he tragically lost his life. I understand that he had quite a garage with a splendid assortment of road cars also.

Didnt Skogmo put a chev in the D Jag? Unfortunately I was sitting in the Pit Lane at RA ready to go out for practice on a rainy day when Don hit the end of the pit wall on the pit straight.

That's the way it ran when Jerry Dunbar had it.

And here is a picture of it with Jerry driving at Meadowdale in 1964.

(I was six years old at the time and cheered every lap. By the way, Jerry had his 76th birthday this past Monday!)
