Hi All,
I am trying to track down a list on entrants for this race. I understand there were 14 entries and 1 of those was Prince Bira. Any others known including cars? References if any?
Thanks,
Chris

Jean-Maurice mon ami - I'm very surprised you missed the date discrepancy! The Cork International Motor Race took place on May 22nd 1937, not June 3rd.
Published sources about this race include "The Cork Motor Races 1936-38" by Wilford J Fitzsimmons (Dreolin Press, Tankardstown, 2000), Denis Jenkinson's "Maserati 3011" (Aries Press/André Deutsch, London, 1987), Prince Chula's "Road Star Hat Trick" and Bira's own book "Bits and Pieces".

Thanks all for providing this information.
My reason for asking is that I have been looking at footage from the race available at
http://www.itnsource...10/?s=CORk 1937
It is clear to me that the Car 17 shown at the 16 second mark AND again at 1:09 mark and again at the 2:03 mark is an MG R-Type. Specifically it is my family's R-Type which has now been confirmed by your kind contributions to this forum. We did not have this race on record and the car has changed colour (was red) to a dark colour which threw me a bit.
Interesting that car is described as Magneto.
Thanks guys and Merry Christmas to all.

Chris: you may have figured it out, but "magneto" was the reason for Charlie Manders' retirement. He was running sixth with three laps to go when the magneto drive sheared, having had to drive a cautious race due to a cracked cylinder head. He'd also had piston trouble during practice.Originally posted by RA0259

If the car stayed in Ireland for any length of time it might be worth contacting Bob Montgomery at the RIAC Archive:

I would like to correct my own error for the record. After much research over the Christmas period I believe the MG R-Type shown at Cork in 1937 is not RA0259 (our own car) as earlier thought but RA0260 (currently owned by Karl Wiseman in Germany). The tell tales signs in the video are the straight through exhaust with an arm rest on it. As well as references in MotorSport May 1947 where Reggie Tongue confirms he sold RA0260 (ex-Malcolm Camplbell car) to Charlie Manders. (I have not personally seen this reference but am reliably informed this is what it says).
