And it won't be long before Westpac close the branch, I don't imagine...

Do you know whose trailer it was, Terry? Certainly not theirs.

Would probably be Sid Taylor's.

Rod Styles' garage corner Sussex Street and Albany Highway East Victoria Park Perth WA. On the other corner (it is a T-junction) was Sid Taylor's dentist business, and it was Rod who built the TS Spl (Taylor-Styles). The McLarens put up with Sid Taylor on their visit. Very low budget! (The garage is long gone, now a Westpac Bank Branch; the dentistry is long gone, now parking area for a shopping mall).

Terry, do you recall the name of Sid Taylor's daughter who took this (and the other related) photos please?

Stephen

I was racking my brain when I posted, trying to recall. It is not Taylor, but her married name, which I was told just once, and my memory for names is famously porous. I remember faces forever, but often not the names attached. And I checked my photo file and found them, all of them, filed under "Taylor", 2013, Which is no help.  Ken Devine might know.

Thanks Terry. I recall the Styles Garage McLaren photos appearing on TNF before I joined. In fact those and the Wally Willmott threads are the reason I did join.

I do have a distant memory Sid Taylor's daughter was named here somewhere. Although a bit of a needle in a haystack. Hopefully Ken drops by this thread and may recall her name.

Here she is:

It was so much simpler then. Western Australia, 1962, AGP time. Bruce McLaren right, Eoin Young left, open trailer, Austin A55 towcar. The location is Rod Styles' garage, East Victoria Park, just two blocks from where I lived at the time, where the Cooper Climax was stored. Bruce and his wife stayed at Sid Taylor's house.

Photo taken by Sid Taylor's daughter, now Mrs Lyn Morgan.

Wally Willmott getting ready for action

This car was called the Inside out Car. It started as a Star car and Wally modified it to this configuration. Everyone thought he drove

it very well.

This is the Zerex Special when owned and raced by Oklahoma’s David Morgan, before it went to South America.

The photo was taken at Hammond, Louisiana.

I wonder if it could be somewhere else in South America. The presence of a carretera, a single-seater and several GTs all together is not in line with the several different well-organised categories running in the country in the sixties. Then again it could be a regional race (they had plenty). I'm not very familiar with the Zerex Special history so there might be conclusive evidence the race is in Argentina but you did not sound very empathic about it, hence my comment.

I doubt that photo was taken in Argentina, the background resembles that of Los Proceres road circuit in Caracas, Venezuela...the street lamps match, for a start...

Could be the 1967 6 h Caracas ?  Look like the winning 906-158, #96, of Armando Capriles of Venezuela.

That would be a scarey race, prototype Sportscars, road sports cars, open wheelers and sedans.

Like the 6-hour relays formerly held at Calder and Amaroo...

Huge car-type and speed differences.

The 750 Motor Club still holds it's 6 Hour Relay every Autumn at Silverstone on the Grand Prix circuit. Entries range from super quick Sports Racers such as Radicals to standard Smart cars and Austin A30s although cars such as Austin 7s are now excluded from entering.

As well as the speed differential there is also the size difference, wide range of braking and cornering (and driver!) capabilities which often cause incidents. In spite of that the 6 Hour Relay remains as popular as ever and with it's handicap section means any of the teams have a chance of victory.

The Austin 7 club of SA used to run relay races. That too was a wide entry with a couple of Austin 7s inc then club president which was actually faster than some Vees,, until the crank broke! And Sports Sedans, sports cars, any thing competing locally.

I had my first Vee drive,,  being towed by the incident vehicle!

Marque Sports still do run them.

I think the posts have wandered off-track because I fail to see how a discussion of Austin 7 racing has anything to do with the memory of Wally Willmott. May we please get back on topic?

Thank you.
