MIKE WILDS PACE CAR 1980/81 Does anyone out there know of the following car i have owned for many years now,its an original ford capri X pack press vehicle in white with ford rs colours being three shades of blue along the sides mainly on the bottom half as per the attatched picture the reg number being COO 260T.The car was originally silver, but was then changed to these colours when MIKE WILDS (the famous racing car driver) bought it from ford after they had used it for their X pack promotions in 1979.Mike then used it as his pace car for various motor sport events in 1980/81 at Oulton Park and various other tracks. He did write to me to confirm this, however,I have very little photographic proof of its history actually on the track ,I do however have plenty of photo's and press articles when it was silver and being tested by various different magazines in 79/80.I am looking to purchase any pictures, old programs or footage of its pace car time, replies shall be much appreciated

I beleive this is the former Brands Hatch pace car that Autosport ran a competition to design the livery etc., it was road legal and Mike drove to Le mans in 1982 prior to driving the De Cad Lola for ADA engineering I travelled in the back and remember Mike muttering whilst driving down to the Sarthe how slow it was, maybe for Wild man but and sat in the rear clinging on and petrified!

Harvey Postlethwaite used to tell a lovely story about Jean-Pierre Jarier using a Cologne V6 Capri on the road. They had been testing an F2 March - I believe - at Snetterton, and Jarier drove Harvey back to London. Harvey nodded off, and at one stage woke up to hear the engine screaming but more importantly to hear Jarier muttering "One 'undred and forty mile". Sleepily Harvey protested, "No - it can't be 140 miles to London..." - whereupon Jumper retorted "Non! One 'undred and forty mile AN HOUR!".
