I know the name of course and I had it linked in my mind with Tony Mason as navigator (who was also associated with Bob Lamb and Dave Cowan in those times) :
1966 RAC Rally, No.52 (a good seeding with the number of Scandanavians there then), R.Mapple/T.Mason 970 Cooper S.

The only other RAC (or Gulf London) entry around the right time:
1965 RAC, No72, Mapple/Marrs, Cooper S, assume 970(Class 3 - and several known 1300s were Class 4).

Do you have a registration number?

His 997 cooper was GJM795 and his 970 which replaced it in early 1965 was NTD276C. 65 RAC was with Graham Marrs and 66 with Tony Mason i think, tried to by NTD a few years back but ended up being restored and sent to Japan, bugger!

I have a photo of No. 72 in Scotland, en route on the '65 RAC. It was given to me by George and Maisi when I departed for the USA. It has faded a bit after 45 years hanging on the wall, but Roy and the car details are fully discernible. My recollection is the car for the RAC was a bored-out 850, to avoid the factory competition in all the other classes. Our Class win justified this choice! This trophy was the centerpiece in George's garage window, together with the other trophies we won.
