Thanks for asking him and for passing along the information. I'd love to see a photo of it in that configuration posted here if somebody has one.

-Jon

Spoke to Brian Morris (not Morrison my mistake) Yesterday (27th) yes when he had it the whole front was modified to lift off completely or tilt up & it did have the round lights on the back. Hope that helps Cheers Phil

A super photo, that close, but no nerfing, I wonder if the lads in the current BTCC could do as well?

Things happened a lot slower back then, why don't you try comparing lap times for a 2 litre escort then and a current 2 litre Tourer now.

Because I do not get my thrills from racers that barge fellow competitors from the track when they cannot pass, although have seen them often, not enough sleep lastnight then Cheapracer, or just the broken glass for breakfast?

As Sterling says, it was John Young - 'Jackie' - Stewart, but he never won at Brands in a Tyrrell. He won the 1969 Race of Champions in the Matra MS80, and the same event in 1970 in the March 701. I'm guessing you saw him in the March, Randal, as it was painted a much deeper blue than the Matra.

bit late because I just found it. I think if you check, the March was still in the French (Elf/Matra) light blue and the dark "Ford" Blue arrived with the first Tyrell at the Gold cup at Oulton Park.

Well, the March looks a much darker blue to me:

The Tyrrell March cars always seemed to be a lighter blue when compared to the darker shade used on the Tyrrells themselves although not as light as the Matra blue. There is a very original Tyrrell March 701 at Gaydon, on loan from Ford, and I think that this is chassis number 4 (although you'd better check with Allen Brown) and is. I think, the car that was displayed at Beaulieu for many years.

I was at both the Race of Champions in 1970 and the Oulton Park Gold Cup so I did see both cars at close quarters. Tyrrell 001, in its early 1971 form, is currenntly at the National Motor Museum and is keeping Lotus 78/JPS16 company whilst the museum's new mezzanine is being constructed.

I'll try to find a pic of the March 701!

Here's a series of Tyrrell March 701 photos - not contemporary, unfortunately:

2 more pics:

Don't know where i got the top one, but the bottom one came from a Dutch site that no longer exists (top right of photo). It was taken during the Spa 24 hours race in 1973. Terry S. is talking to the driver.

I'm sure that the Wiggins Teape Camaro was referred to in their advertisements at the time as "The Papermaker's Pacemaker"

Okay, thanks Frank. Yes, that's the site as I remember it, but with a different address. Many good pics there too. My interest in that car is because I was a mech' on the car during that race. Good memories.... :D
