Odd-looking nose on the test car and also, one I don't recognise at 0.44 seconds into the clip.

Barry that's the original F6 at 0.44 secs, which, I think, was updated after the flyaway races at the beginning of the season to the F6A which was not an awful lot better.

Note Emerson also upgraded from a 'twin window' Bell helmet to the Simpson 'star wars' job at this time :-)

Not unlike the Mike Pilbeam-updated 1976 version of David Purley's Chevron B30 in some ways....

17 07 81, Chico Serra, Fittipaldi F8 C could be chassis #4 ?

Taken back in the day when the excess of a weeks wages went on getting to the races, another weeks on buying a roll or two of film and yet another went on getting the film developed !

Or so it seems now looking back :-)

Emmo at Brands in 1978 and what's that rear wing end plate made of? Plywood?

Posted Image

And Guy Edwarrds car at Mallory in 1979. Wonder how much help the Fittipaldi's gave to Colin Bennett's team?
I heard that Arrows were very supportive of the C L Clowes team's efforts in 1979 - or should that be 'tolerant' ?

.....ooo er, given some of the tales about RAM that appear on TNF maybe even 'tolerate' would be the wrong term?

What a great set of pictures! I always thought the F8 could have done more, given a bigger budget.

Writing in The Batsford Guide to Racing Cars, DSJ noted: "He [Wilson Fittipaldi] bought a number of British Formula 1 cars just as they became obsolete, for study purposes and with his friend Richard Divila he built the first Fittipaldi car with finance from the Brazilian Copersucar firm."

Any knowledge about which cars were purchased and what happened to them?

Certainly they had the BT34 Brabham, i think that was the car the rear radiators were tested on.

Emerson also had the ex Walker Lotus 72C but i don't think that was used, if it was it was returned to its original configuration before reappearing in the uk some years later.

I'm as intrigued as you to know what else was in the collection.

There was an early Tyrrell as well, one with the bluff nose but before the more wedge-shaped 005 etc. I have a photo - somewhere!

If I remember correctly, Adrian Hamilton was tasked with the sale of the Fittipaldi F1 cars in about 1984 and the whole collection was sold at the same time.  I think that the Lotus 72 (chassis R4) was painted in JPS livery as ythe cars were, I believe, used for exhibition purposes to promote F1, and Emerson of course, in Brazil.

That rings a bell Michael - either 002 or 004. I am going to guess it was 002 from a very vague and distant memory.

But it could have been 004...

While I can't vouch for the Adrian Hamilton element of the final Fittipaldi sale, many of the Fittipaldi works cars, including I think most, if not all, of the factory stores, ended up with ADA in Brentford. I certainly recall a number of the cars residing in the racks at the back of the workshop and briefly I actually worked on a couple. To this day my 750 MC F1300 car carries bits of Fittipaldi including oil coolers, rod ends etc.

I think that Adrian Hamilton must have been commissioned by the Fittipaldis to sell the "historic" cars (in early 1985 I believe) and some, including Tyrrell 002 and the Brabham BT34 were later given showroom space at their then premises in Bagshot.   I'm pretty sure that Lotus 72 R4 was in JPS livery when it returned from Brazil.  Wasn't there a photograph of the "Fittipaldi roadshow" somewhere with the cars being taken on an open transporter to various venues?

(slightly) OT.  I spoke with Adrian at about that time as he had a client looking for a 1 1/2 littre era F1 car and approached my then employer to see if BRM 5781 might be available.    The family of the late Leonard Lee had recently sold Lotus 33 R14 at auction and I suggested that he contact its purchaser - the Caister Castle Museum - to see if they were intending to move it on.   I think he received an emphatic NO!

In any event, the later Fittipaldi cars deserved more and with a fairer financial wind could have been a regular winner in my view.

To put this topic on a more human level, I was a rep for a company selling cleaning products, toilet paper etc, Being a confirmed fan and knowing that they were pretty skint, I used to go to the factory in Reading and drop off a load of samples of toilet rolls and loo cleaner. They were always very greatfull.

I have to agree with most of that. I'm not sure they would have won that much but they certainly looked there part, unlike the early models.

Wilson’s lady posted this on Facebook, so it’s in the public domain (sorry, it didn’t feel correct to transfer over the photo)

“ At Christmas lunch wilsinho choked on a piece of meat and had a cardiac arrest, he was resuscitated and is sedated and intubated, we are waiting for him to wake up, he has a difficult post surgical history of post sedative return, one day at a time, we will wait. I Rita, yesterday I received countless phone calls and kind messages of support for the whole family, I thank you all and I know that they are the ones who give us strength at this very difficult time. Continue the positive vibes of health and restoration for Wilsinho. God will make the best!
This picture was taken when we left home to celebrate Christmas and his birthday!

I remember walking past or parking outside Fittipaldi at Reading on many Monday evenings, as it was close to the Reading Racers Speedway track that I attended most weeks

I was impressed that there was a formula 1 team in a dodgy looking part of Reading , but I don't remember the lights ever being on when we walked past at about 6.30-7.00ish, and I always thought these Formula 1 teams would be doing overtime to make the car go faster.
