Duckhams also became involved with Thundersports in 1986 with the Lola of Graeme Glew and Andrew Broadley......

OK, it's not circuit racing but Scottish Rally champion Drew Gallacher ran this Duckhams backed Chevette in 1980.

Great pic. Great to see a rally car on this thread, after all the title is "Duckhams-sponsored cars".
Another two rally drivers who have had Duckhams sponsorship are John Price and Cyril Bolton.

I don't like to be nit-picking but the Surtees featured in posts 12 and 16 is a TS8 not 9.

Indeed the car did run a prolonged 'test' at Silverstone to prove the integrity of the Duckhams oil. More than the full length of a GP as I recall. The idea was to prove a good multi grade 'road' oil was as good if not better than many of the single grade racing oils of the time, as Elf had proved with Tyrrell previously.

So is it a TS8 fitted with a DFV? See post 55.
..and not nit-picking myself but David's post of Irvine in the FFF is 1987, not '86. :)

Yes David, '87 was the year Irvine won in that car, Van Diemen no.67, '86 Roland Ratzenberger won it.

Oh dear my mistake its a TS7. I got my numbers jumbled, I think because A. Rollinson drove both types. The car featured was a former team car repainted.

If you check-out post number 55 in this thread the actual wording of the add claims it is a TS9 not a TS7.

Sorry to go off topic slightly. This is the Norton 588 rotary that Ian Simpson raced to win the 1994 British Superbike title (H.E.A.T./British Supercup, TT Superbike class)

I agree the ad does say TS9 but the car in the pictures is a TS7. They had different front suspension components. The car used for the Duckhams test was definitely a TS7.

Les, how I do it is to first upload my photos to a photo hosting site - I use www.photbucket.com - and then you copy/paste the URL of your pics into your post on here. e.g. the photo of mine above of the rally Chevette has the URL http://i5.photobucke...anitecity80.jpg. If I was posting a reply in this forum and wanted to include that pic, I'd look for the row of icons above the text box and click on the one that says "Insert image" and then paste the URL of my photo into the box which appears.

I probably havn't explained that very well but give it a go and see how you get on. Whichever photo hosting site you choose, you will need to sign up with them to open an account but they are all free of charge.

Edit: I only spotted this after posting my reply above - there is a guide to posting photos to the forum here - http://forums.autosp...showtopic=70638

Hi Fubar,
Thanks for the info on how to post pictures onthe site, I shall give it a shot later.
Is that a photo of my all time hereo that your using?
Jimmy Clark lived just up the road from me when he farmed Edington Maines, when he was being groomed by Jock McBain from Berwick where we lived, and the Border Reivers, we used to meet up sometimes at Charterhall, when I was riding a BSA B34 500 goldie in full clubmans trim, and later an awsome G45 Matchless 500, and he would be out in his Sunbeam talbot or a 356 B Posrche or something else, last time i spoke to Jimmy, was at the Nubergring at the German Grands Prix.
Do you know Drew Gallagher then?
we used to have some bloody hilarious times at Avimore on the Ski slope on tea trays ( and in canoes!!!!!)my other pals during the 70s (Scottish pals this is) were Murrey Grierson,Donald Heggie,Ivor Clark, Keith S-B Charles and Alec Sampson, Ken Wood, Jimmy MCrae and Johnson Syer, et al.
I think Drew had John Eyeres in the Chevette did he not?
Right, I am going to try and post some pictures of my rally cars when Ron Carnell used to look after me, on the 1982 RAC I rolled the Mini in the forest of Dean and fractured the engine breather pipe, and because it was through the night, my service crew did not spot it, but we ended up using as much oil as petrol, and i must have had about 30 gallons from Ron before we eventually siezed up in Kielder.
No, I cant get my head around it, Iwill try again tomorrow.
Kind regards,
Les.

There have been many good drivers to race the works Duckhams Van Diemen FF1600 cars. A flick through the programmes reveals some of them:
are:
Don MacLeod 1977
Michael Roe 1978
Terry Gray 1979
Raul Boesel 1980
Tommy Byrne 1981
Enrique Mansilla 1981
??? 1982 ?
Mark Peters 1983
Dave Coyne 1984
Ruairi O'Coileain 1985
Jason Elliot 1986
Eddie Irvine 1987
Derek Higgins 1988
Niko Palhares 1989
Giampiero Simoni 1989
Michael Vergers 1990
Mark Goossens 1991
Andrew McAuley 1992
Jan Magnussen 1992
Russell Ingall 1993
Justin Keen 1994
Ralphie Firman 1994
Kevin McGarrity 1995
Jiri de Veirman 1995
Mark Webber 1996
Jacky van der Ende 1997
Marcus Ambrose 1998
Dan Wheldon 1998
David Besnard 1998
Rob Collard 1998
Ricardo van der Ende 1999
James Courtney 2000
Robert Dahlgren 2000
Patrick Long 2001
Richard Goransson 2001
Robin Rudholm 2001
Gary Turkington 2001
Westley Barber 2002
Stuart Hall 2002
Mike Conway 2002
Jan Heylen 2002

From memory I don't think there was a Duckhams sponsored works Van Diemen in FF1600 in 1982. I recall the works driver that year being Bjorn Langreken. I think the spelling is right but I am in China and have no old programmes to check. He was a Norwegian who spent more time visiting the scenery than on the track. I am almost certain his car was bright blue. Why Duckhams didn't sponsor him I don't know.

On another topic several posters have mentioned that Karl Jones did only a part season in the Duckhams escort. The reason I think was that he had several run ins with officialdom. I reported him twice in my marshalling days once at Donington and once at Silverstone. Both incidents went to the stewards and if memory serves me correctly his licence was suspended for a time.

I'll ask Mr Jones about this, boyo!!
It didn't get reported on in Autosport but Karl drove an E-Type at Silverstone last weekend and qualified a very good 7th - the race didn't go quite so well, 20th I think.

Quite obviously built before the rules changed requiring the front wheel axle line to be well ahead of the drivers feet
