Virgin is not a title sponsor.Originally posted by wingwalker
If you read what Brawn said earlier, 'Brawn GP' was a temporary solution, for the time they don't have title sponsor. They have now, not THAT much of a story really.
Not yet.
They are in talks to increase the funding within the next few weeks and what is apparently on the table is to call the team 'Virgin (F1?)' if agreed.

Slowinfastout also has a very good point, this car was developed by honda who at the time had a huge budget, of course brawn probably had a influence on the design so its his car also. I wonder now if honda are regretting pulling out.

Wrong. This is the Honda team, led by Brawn. The Honda engine is gone. What's left is what Brawn put in place, with Honda Money. Now it's what he put in place with someone else's money

And sure, I'd rather have a team named Brawn GP than Virgin GP (or Honda) on the grid, but it's still Brawn's team, it doesn't matter that much.
It probably boils down to he always getting his name on tv and his high profile marketing gimmicks which rubs people up the wrong way, but like I said he also does stuff you wouldn't really know about such as the London Air Ambulance etc.
Like you I'd far rather have someone like him who sums up the individual rather than corporate boards who sponsor most of the teams. Also, unlike a lot of people who want to own their own team, for the kudos and then take it nowhere ( Midland anyone?) he is clever enough just to let the people best suited to run it actually run it.
Ross seems happy, he's always wanted to run a team and now he has and I am very happy for him how it has turned out up to now. The first layer of icing on the cake will be a win tomorrow.

It's a non-story for now. When asked if it was possible Virgin could take over the name of the team, Branson said: "It is certainly a possibility. But we will see what happens over the next three or four weeks.

Why it can't just be Brawn GP with Virgin all over it beats me... its hardly like Branson put the team together himself... did you see how quick he flew down to Melbourne when it looked like the funny little white cars were going to go well? Hes a total opportunist.

No, it's a Brawn team with a 18-month Honda developed chassis.
The Honda engine would not be a handicap because it would have been allowed the same upgrades Merc and Ferrari were allowed during the engine freeze.

I have no qualms about the team being renamed, and the livery being plastered in Virgin colours.
Branson's got the money. He's not a boring businessman in a suit, and I'm sure he'll leave the team in Brawns hands. Who wouldn't?

It might not. McLaren's are still named after Ron Dennis' old F3 team? (IIRC?)
But yeah.
Branson has money. Lots of money. Just like Malya. This can surely only be a positive thing for Brawn and the team. Virgin is a pretty big deal. Maybe if this season goes well they'll have a bigger budget to ensure they can always fight at the top from now on?
EDIT: As usual it looks like the forum is torn between people that actually give a damn about the sport and the team, and people that like to have Big Brother style vendettas against certain people So the fuck what if Branson is just trying to get publicity.
THAT'S__________WHAT__________SPONSORSHIP___________IS__________FOR
It's a mutually beneficial deal. To accuse someone of sponsoring someone because they want their name out there is the most ******** thing I've ever read on a motorsport forum. F1 teams don't run on some Jesus Christ figure walking in and promoting world peace.

The 100 million Honda left him for this season is will eventually run out, and he needs someone to pay the bills.

Virgin Brawn GP
Sir Richard has already called the car the Virgin BGP001 in the statement on brawngp.com
To have a change in the title of the team will require the other teams to ALL agree too....

Nothing against Virgin or Branson, I just don't like how he has handled this affair, waiting till they was topping the grid to jet over to sign a contract like some glory hunter, thats not saying you can't blame him, but....

WHAT ON EARTH IS SPONSORSHIP IF IT'S NOT AN EXCHANGE OF MONEY FOR GLORY?
Would you rather someone LESS able to provide money sponsored Brawn? Perhaps AFTER they qualified?
Don't you dare forget that NOBODY ELSE this big has come forward before hand. Virgin is the FIRST major backer to do so.
SOME people really need to grow up and get over taking things like this so god damned personally.

A team looking for a sponsor... a businessman who owns a well known brand and has the financial means to plough a fair whack into said team... Is that not what EVERY team has?
Tell me one team who is not backed by either a single person with a large budget, or a company/group of people with a large budget.
So what if the car turns red overnight? Surely it mus be better than that hideous lime green effort.
And as for the name, if I was backing a team as number 1 sponser, then i would be looking at having my company name incorperated into the team name. Red Bull, anyone?
