Seriouslu guys is there any legal backing for "April fool" lies?
If I were a betting man, this could have cost me a considerable financial loss!

For an Aprils fool story to work it has to be slightly credible and should have one clue in the story to give it away.

Of course there is and the site probably faces beiing sued now by either one of the parties McLaren, Brawn and their respective drivers and sponsors. This is quite serious as they have also made up quotes from several of the key people in the teams. They have a cause to sue and will probably do so.

Mind you, if it turns our any of the parties were involved in this. Say, Ross Brawn gave the actual quotes meant as a April 1:st joke they will risk being part of the process as well and be penalized. That in turn could have ramifications on the championship as they might be disqualified or risking racing under appeal for bringing the sport in disrepute.

So this is serious.

But first of all, it's the web site taking the biggest risk. They might risking having to close now, I don't think a simple apology will do in this case. And if any of the teams were involved in the joke it will be huge.

There was another "piece of news" many years ago that said Damon Hill would switched to Minardi team and the site even created a photo of Damon test driving the car !

So F1-live pals should try harder to match the standard :stoned: :stoned:

2/10 for effort on the writing there. They could at least have made the quotes sound more like the people who were supposed to have made the comments.

the very first sentence meant it was obviously an april fools joke

'In a surprise statement issued shortly after midnight on this date'

in a normal true article it'd never say 'on this date'

Hamo you have baby sized ears
And I want to nubble them like
Soft chewing gum…..you are no1.

Rom Dennis was at his best
Stalling progress and forcing you down the field
But as a proven champ, you’ll never yield

How people forget how fast and cute you are
Even after you’ve driven so far
A WDC at 23, your amazing talent is a mystery

Rom has dropped the ball and expects you to fall
But with your Fathers support and wisdom
I have no doubt you’ll blitz them

Alonso is no longer a threat to anyone but
The nearest spectator, so you’ll be free to drive fast
And make a mockery of your position in the last race.

You sting like a butterfly and float like a bee
And you’ve got the kind of ears that make me hungry
You’ll be at top speed soon, even if Rom never says another word

The Chinese GP starts in a few days
And I know you’ll be P1 or 2
Rom will be dumbfounded, but what else is new
You’re too good to be true

This Hamilton statement makes is quite believable thoaugh “This is the best way for me to help my regular team move forward. With the spotlight on me at Brawn while I win all these races, McLaren don't have to worry about having a World Champion aboard and all that pressure.”

“You have to look at the numbers,” explained Norbert Haug, VP of Mercedes-Benz Motorsports. “By switching Lewis and part of our budget to Brawn – which is already Mercedes-powered – statistically we can manage to win both championships this season.”

Very nicely done!

With names like Professor Hugh Masterby-Jerrkin, Wayne Kerr, Head of KERS and Doctor Ku Lin ‘Ng Phaan what else would it be?

Nicely put together though and at least half believable - which is the essence of a good April Fool.

"“While the team was racing in Melbourne, we came directly to Kuala Lumpur to evaluate the system in real conditions and for this we were given invaluable help by the Thermal Energy faculty of the Kuala Lumpur Polytechnic, particularly the head of department, Doctor Ku Lin ‘Ng Phaan."

Doctor Coolingfan , the tendency of STR to make fun of themselves n trivialize the whole thing is making me a bit of a fan

Best bit is that the clue is given in the first sentence:

issued shortly after midnight on this date
