I know there's another thread here somewhere, but Dan Gurney had several important influences on racing during his career.

Dan, You have made America and the world Proud with all of your tremendous accomplishments ! I first met you at Sebring, (you were driving for Porsche AG in the Abarth Carrera ), little did I know, that I would be privileged to win the 1969 Continental Championship a few years later, in a FA 5000 Gurney Eagle, Chassis # 510 . All American Racers, inc. has made some of the finest racing cars in the world, Thank You Mr. Dan Gurney and the entire AAR team. We are all honored to share your friendship and love of racing. Ironically, I just received Albert Wong's great Legends of Riverside photo sent to me from my friend Dennis Currington and Yes, Evi looks so young and radiant, Thank You Both for being the Legends that you are.
Cheers ! Tony Adamowicz, www.a2zracer.com , www.a2zracergear.com ,

Another time, another place:
Mr Gurney consults with a Safety Steward, concerned about the
"Bott's Dots" marking the apex of Turn 12 (beginning of the S/F straightaway).
I said it was apparent the Dots were superfluous, the cars being loaded to the other side, the drivers using the concrete wall as course limiter, Dots could only have a deleterious effect on the tires/suspensions, and were otherwise insignificant.
Gurney took it in, and next morning the Dots were gone.

Happy Birthday to one of the Best. I only met him once, at Milwaukee on a Friday during practice for the weekend CART race. I had a box of photographs of Dan and others from the Glen and Indy. Plus a special photo of Dan and Jimmy Clark from the 1963 Milwaukee race which Jimmy won. He invited me to sit in the hospitality tent and we started to look at the photographs. In minutes I felt as I had known him for years. He told stories about every shot, identifying people in them. We had a lot of laughs and he was very complimentary of my work. I was absolutely in awe. I thought, if you liked basketball this was like sitting down with Michael Jordan for an hour. Dan, many more to one of the great contributors to the world of Motor Racing. I will never forget that hour sit down in Milwaukee and a chance to meet you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND MANY MORE! Ron NelsonBest wishes to Dan Gurney. Another legendary driver that I was fortunate to see race. I believe I took this shot at Milwaukee or Michigan in 1996 when P.J. Jones and Juan Fangio II were his drivers in CART.

Never met him - wish I had, but even as a young child I knew he was a class act. Like another great American driver (Mario) he oozes class outside of the cockpit. I wish him the very best and hope he enjoys some big celebrations today.

Belated Happy Birthday Dan. Great driver & producer of some of the best looking racing cars of all time.

Best guess is: Facing Gurney, Bruce McLaren who drove 3 races for AAR in 1967. Back to us could be Joe Ramirez? kneeling might be Rouem Haffenden? These guesses come from a photo of AAR Team in Joe Ramirez. Others included were Tim Wall and Mike Lowman. Some of these guys probably fit here.
Best wishes and many more to come Dan!

From Racer; what a great gesture. I've always loved this car and was fortunate to see it run in period. Cox did a powered tethercar of this car and my brother and I wanted one in a big way. It was not inexpensive and wouldn't have one in the collection until many years later when Dad found one basically, "new and in the box."
"The stunning 1967 Eagle Indy car was presented to Dan Gurney on his 84th birthday, yesterday in Santa Ana, Calif. Impeccably restored by John Mueller and Jerry Wise, and refitted with a Ford four-cam from Tom Malloy, this was arguably the finest present that Gurney’s sons could have come up with. As it sat glinting in the sun, Dan was visibly moved…and became even more so when the engine finally caught and fired up."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAN GURNEY!!!!
I was at Revival in 2012 when Dan the Man was the honoured driver.....standing right at the S/F line near him....Royal Marine band playing the Star Spangled Banner just for him....Lord March at his side....a flight of P-51 Mustangs doing a fly-by in his honor. This Yank was properly misted up!
DAN GURNEY FOR PRESIDENT! (It isn't too late)
Many happy returns of the day to a true racing legend and just a helluva guy!

In these primary days in the USA, my new "Dan Gurney for President" sticker (it was a present) looks very fine in the back window!
And it is just as relevant now as it was back when Car and Driver thought up the idea.

I brought two back from Goodwood as mentioned above. I can't decide whether to "wear" 'em or preserve 'em!
