If you could visit only one motor race, which would you choose?

I considered including Spa, but I felt that I had to include a couple of rallies as well! Anyway, a great choice of event

Monaco can be affordable.Originally posted by Lazy Prodigy
Spa, but what is on the list Monaco... considering its paid for
Stay at a low cost hotel in Nice and take the train daily. A 25 min ride takes you right to the track.
Monaco is good for atmosphere but a terrible track with no passing.

Where EVER you walk in the town, you'll see people in flipflops and shorts with a General Permit ticket hanging around their necks. On the run down there, and on the way back, you're surrounded by Ferrari's and TVR's etc.
It's an epic road-journey to get there, rather than flying and staying in Hotel as perhaps you would with a GP.
You've got the camping with it's associated BBQ's.
Although I've been twice now, so I'd probably chose Monaco GP for next time.

I picked Le Mans too but I'd have to disagree about the whole town getting into it.
On the Friday before Le Mans last year we went out in downtown Le Mans and it was totally dead.
Aside from the track it is a pretty drab little place.

I've only been twice. Maybe we just subconsciously followed the mobs around

The parties at the track and on the roads near the track were pretty awesome, aside from when part of the mob opened the door of our passing car and tried to drag Mrs Potmotr out...!

Then on Friday it's the classic british welcome just north of the town where thousands watch the cars and have a wonderful time.
Dunno where you went on Friday but from 5pm the town was filled with many thousands of people watching the drivers parade and the supercars on display.
Then watched the football on a big screen (France-Netherlands) with loads of people and had dinner and drinks until the last tram to get back to the track for the traditional Friday-night parties.
Maybe you went to the wrong places?

At Daytona, you can always stay until the dawn before going home
A corowker of mine is a HUGE NASCAR fan. She lives a few minutes from Kanapolis. She went to Daytona 2 years ago. Reported there is no way in hell whe would ever do that again. Her and her husband go to between 3 and 5 NASCAR races a year, but she said Daytoa was by far the worst experience ever.

Le Mans is an awesome event, and I went to see the Monte Carlo rally the best year in recent history, 1994 when Paddy Hopkirk and Timo Makinnen went back to compete in Mini Coopers. Also before the Concentration run was canned and it was a proper event, same thing for the RAC Rally, never been to see the Rally of Wales.
GP's are fun but ultimately too clinical as an event to visit.

Bathurst is a great race live, 6 hours is pretty much the perfect length for endurance racing and the cars across the top of the mountain look like nothing else in motorsport today.

Le Mans would be cool too, or Spa 24hrs.
I'm too broke to even afford the plane ticket though, anyone wanna spot me a few hundred bucks?;)
