Those of you out there who own or look after photo/film archives might be able to help here please? In photos taken at Silverstone in May 1952 at the Daily Express Trophy meeting, Mike is shown in his Cooper-Bristol with a film camera mounted on the front - the image shown below is the best view of the equipment:
(this image was used in Golden Boy but we don't know the copyright owner -
if it's yours, please yell and we'll update the reprint that's underway)
Behind Mike are two of his mechanics: left (in the photo) is Brit Pearce with his usual fag and right the bearded Hughie Sewell. Does anyone know who the man pointing at the camera is?
Does anyone know why they were doing this or what happened to the film or have any clips from it please?
Thanks.
Lost Mike Hawthorn film?

Thanks for the thought but I obtained every piece of film that featured Mike from ITNSource for use with the book (stills/ref) last year and it's not amongst them. Also had early film material from clubs around that period (Gamston etc) but nothing for that Silverstone day. There might be something at Silverstone itself I suppose, worth a try.BTW: ITN/Reuters now own the Pathe/Marconi archive, perhaps try their website?

Just curious, do you have any reason to believe that the filming was successful?

Nope - but that would be a good reason why there's no apparent trace of it I guess. Do you possibly have reason to suppose it wasn't successful then?Just curious, do you have any reason to believe that the filming was successful?
