I heard that Bruno Junqueira's father, José Junqueira, also was a racing driver.
Are there any details about his career?

I raced against him on 1978/79/80 1600cc VW-Passat championship in Brazil.
My recollection is that he was a very fast driver and a nice person too. If my memory is correct, he won the 1980 or 1981 championship.

Oh, I remeber now! VW-Passat 1978 champion was my team mate Pedro La Rocque, 1979 champion was Toninho Da Matta who is father of Christiano Da Matta, maybe Junqueira was 1980 champion (I left the championship in the middle, due to lack of money).

José Junqueira was quite a competent touring car driver from Minas Gerais (as Bruno is), active from the mid-1970s to the mid/late-1980s. I suspect that what propelled him into the sport were those races around the Mineirão soccer stadium, between 1969 and 1973. Junqueira may have even raced in a few of them (I'm not sure, need to research that... it was before my time there!), or in the supporting kart events.

He was a sort of stalwart of the Copa Passat, and then joined the Brazilian Makes & Drivers Championship when this was created, in 1983 (if I remember correctly). He raced mostly Volkswagens, but I remember him driving a blue and yellow Fiat Uno at the Makes & Drivers series.

(ovfi, Da Matta won the Copa Passat in 1980 as well - I don't think Junqueira ever won that series... Did he?)

Junqueira was a very quiet, unassuming guy. I remember meeting him a few times when I was a marshal, in my teens.
