If recent means a decade, I go for:
Interlagos 2003;
Silverstone 2003 and
Suzuka 2005.

Agree on Silverstone 2003. Possibly Rubens finest race, even better than the win at Hockenheim.

Interlagos 2006
Interlagos 2007

If 1999 is too old, then probably Interlagos last year!

Had a look at which races I gave a '9' at the Voting Championship threads in 'Bets&Games' since 2002 (never gave a 10 so far).

These ones - quite a list:
2002 British GP
2003 British GP
2003 US GP
2005 San Marino GP
2005 Monaco GP
2005 Japanese GP
2006 Hungarian GP
2006 Chinese GP
2007 Chinese GP
2007 Brazilian GP
2008 Monaco GP
2008 Belgian GP
2008 Brazilian GP
(in retrospect I would give the 2003 Brazilian GP a 9 as well)

Difficult choice, today my top 3 choice is
Silverstone 2003
Suzuka 2005
Interlagos 2008

But tomorrow maybe a different one...

it's too bad that they changed the last race to a new place this season, i always thought that having the last race in interlagos was perfect, and usually anything that can possibly happen will happen during that grand prix.

Then again i think that the athmosphere surrounding the race does contribute alot to the high emotions of the race, so to me they should always have the last race in a place where the fans are in fact fanatics.

I saw some fine wet weather races during the last few years. Was massively impressed by Vettels Monza win in a bloody Toro Rosso. People still harp about Senna and Bellof in Monaco 84; don't hear a lot of psalms about that Vettel race. Why?

In no particular order:

Silverstone 2003 (due to an excellent drive by Rubens, loads of passing, man on track, plenty of close racing)

Suzuka 2005 (due to the way the grid was after a rainy quali and how that contributed to plenty of passing, Alonso's fantastic move on Schumi, the dramatic last lap pass for the lead as Kimi closed a seemingly impossible gap to Fisi, and just general excitement)

Interlagos 2008 (due to the tension, the pre race downpour which caused extra problems for the teams, plenty of passing, a flawless performance by Felipe, and the drama due to the rain in the last 5 laps or so)

Heres my updated list then.

Suzuka 99 (Mika and Schumi lapping 2 seconds a lap faster than others)
Suzuka 05

British Grand Prix 2003

Belgian Grand Prix 2004

German Grand Prix 2000.

If I could choose a fourth race it would be the 2005 Japanese Grand Prix.

The car labeled 'Candy' did not start from pole for said rain performance.

For alot of people, enjoying a race comes down to liking the result. Rather then if it was a great race or not. They don't happen often anymore, but years ago there was a rate the GP topic after each race, and this was a pattern. Human nature I guess.

Alot of people haven't done that in this topic though.

Suzuka 2005 for me, is maybe the best race I've ever watched. Can't think of 2 more, there's too many to pick from, all the ones listed above are good. Except for Spa and Silverstone 08? Monaco was better then these two IMO, but that was not exactly a classic either.

Your point being? Vettel being a better qualifyer than the guy in the Candy labelled car?

I think some have different criteria for a top race. For me, it means being on the edge of your seat whether you like the drivers involved or not. You can't sit straight. You can't help but stand up and cheer at times. Emotions run high etc etc. Then you rave about the race to anyone who will listen the next day. Brazil last year, Imola 2005, Monaco 2005, Hungary 2006, Suzuka 2005, Silverstone 2003, Brazil 2003, Turkey 2006, heck even Melbourne 2006.. a few examples but admitedly the lack of overtaking in some of them was a drawback, but the excitement was there. I guess we all experience the races differently. It's sad that most likely this season, firstly Brazil isn't the final race, and also most likely the championship will be already decided. Three years in a row it's been great races.

Given that I don't particularly have a favourite driver, I don't use that as 1 of the criteria. If a race is genuinely exciting, plenty of wheel to wheel racing and overtaking, maybe a surprise winner or a race changing crash, a bit of rain, a late pass for a win, a fantastic pass, tension, those are more the criteria (or they would be if I had criteria!) that i'd base it on, and obviously the more things the race has, the better, hence the choices I made

No, 'Candy' DNQ one race before. dog of a car.

And Buemi was 4th with the STR. That takes some of the glory from SV's run.

Not much of a race for the lead, but the WDC changing hands on the last corner (and twice in the last laps) is something unlikely to ever be repeated.

In all we've been pretty fortunate that the last races of the last 3 seasons have all had title implications going to the last race....again something not likely to happen this year!

There you go, giacomo. Another thread, and yet your obsession with Senna is shining through.

Which are your "top 3 races in recent years" was the question.

Mine are:

Suzuka 2005
Hungaroring 2006
Interlagos 2008

Taking the last 4 years into consideration....

Silverstone 2008, mainly cos I was there, in soaking wet jeans at luffield, watching everyman and his dog go off

Interlagos 2006, cos it was a damn fine race by Mr Schumacher

Tossup between malaysia and china this year, as well as hungaroring 06, suzuka 05, monza 08 and a couple of others probably.
