Just started playing tonight, it's soooo much harder in 3D! I turned it off playing in 2D and stopped crashing! Early days yet but it's good!

I'm a little surprised at that - I thought it might be easier. I have a problem on some corners, judging the breaking distance exactly, and thought it might help to play it in 3D. My one short go in a store wasn't conclusive as I couldn't do a back-to-back on a track that I know well.

I've just unlocked the endurance mode, thanks to the seasonal thing. But you can't save at all??? I know endurance means endurance etc. But I can't play it straight for 4 hours let alone a 24 hour race. That's pretty poor.

You'll have to pause and do stints.

thanks Crafty

Oh and if you want to be a bit crafty lie about your date of birth - on your b-day they give you a free car from the year you were born so make sure its a fairly recent year - cant beat a 1990's le mans car!

The effects are amazing but I just can't get to grips aswell as I can in 2D maybe practice will help....

Which would mean leaving the PS3 on for about a month and not being able to do anything else. And running up a pretty big bill. Don't think they thought that one through very well.

You need to switch to the B-Spec at the pitstops to do the leg work and check his progress periodically and step back in when he's not performing. If it's like GT4 you can also accelerate real time to speed the whole event up. I used to build up a big lead in the first stint then let the B-Spec Bertie bring it home. don't forget to leave the overtake order on otherwise he'll get stuck behind lapped cars. Might be completely different in GT5 but this is how I remember doing the endurance events.

AFAIK you can't switch between A & B spec mid race anymore, unless I'm missing something the two modes have been separated right out.
A silly backward step from 4, IMO as is the lost ability to save part-way through a championship.
Still on the upside, all licence tests passed, and I'm thoroughly enjoying - the GT series has the perfect game / sim balance as far as I'm concerned.

Yep! Used to use the same tactic in GT4.
German touring car championship. Audi TT-R (maxed out) Do 2 quick laps of Paris track (B-Spec Bob does not overtake well on this track :well: ) run through pits and switch to B-spec (on 3x speed). Only need to "race" 2 laps, all other tracks on B-spec. 75,000 for championship and Mercedes CLK-GTR worth 750,000!!

I haven't bothered with B spec. Really, you have to remind your up and coming driver to overtake back markers. Shiesh, I think I'll pass as it were...

For me, B-spec is just an easy way to win cars and make easy money.

Just give your driver a much faster car than the AI, then you only need to hit start and collect the prize after the race. Especially after getting the Red Bull X2010, making fast money becomes easy. 12 laps of Tokyo in the dream car championship takes about 13 minutes and gets you 108.000 credits. B-spec bob can actually do 53.xxx laptimes in the stupidly fast car, but already at the start of lap 3, he laps the other cars.

You cannot drive races together with your B-spec driver anymore, and also you cannot speed races up. Prize cars you can also only win once.

He was talking about GT4.
GT5 B-spec lacks some options but hopefully patches will make it better. So there's no time accelerator nor automatic stick to give b-Bob's wrist a slap if he beguns to Zzz.
Anyway, there's no need to set him overtaking mode in GT5, since he has own brains to overtake. Of course there's button to tell him overtake, but it makes him just try more.

In a final - successful - attempt to get a Gold with the MB 300SL around the Nurbergring, a managed to jam the X button on full power, and it won't come up! I am contemplating taking the controller apart, but previous experience tells me that some small, vital part will refuse to relocate on re-assembly, or a spring will leap out and be lost in the shag-pile. Should I attempt this, or just bite the bullet and buy a new one? I have a spare, but feel naked without two working ones.

Tony.

I had a small piece of loose plastic rattling around inside my controller, so I opened it up to remove the irritating little bugger (although I stil have no idea where it came from!)
I've had lots of experience taking thes controllers (PS1/2 and 3) apart to fix them....mostly after tossing them at the wall in disgust.  The PS3 controller IME was the easiest of the three. just make sure everything is roughly in place before re-assembling.

It should be noted at this juncture that Tony Manadra accepts no responibility for loss or damage to aformentioed equipment should Tony Matthews turn out to be a ham-fisted technician!. Hi guys,
I'm loving GT5 and all that.

But... aren't there some cars that SHOULD be in a driving game for it to be called serious?

Lola T70
Porsche 956
Porsche 917
Ferrari 512
Lancia LC2
McLaren M6

is it just me missing these cars too much?
Instead we have 50 different nissan skylines, 5 versions of the dahiatsu cuore and god knows how many more japanese useless rubbish boxes.

Yes! exactly! What's wrong with these people? fair enough that they didn't want to pay porsche license or whatnot... but what about the others?
Toyota 7 and not mclaren m6? are they taking a piss?

I think that its a silly complaint to say 'these specific cars should be there'. It just doesnt make any sense to me, its up to the games devs and the cars makers to decide.. And while there is a wide range of cars from Japan (well yes...) many are actually interesting, different and fun to drive and offer very widely varying experiences.

There are also a good raft of classic and modern euro and US cars. People talk as if there are almost none, but thats not true at all.

I agree. So what if you can't have a Porsche in this game? It'd be nice of course, but it doesn't really matter when you've got a 458 or SLS in your garage! Or a GTR, MP4-12C, F430 Scuderia, NSX, Evora, LFA, Supra... well, any of the countless brilliant cars they have. They've even got the RUF tuner's models in to get you as close to a Porsche as they are allowed!

Of course there's a Japanese bias, they're Japanese! And the late 70's and 80's are when domestic car companies really took off in Japan. The cars may be a bit dull-looking to us, but most of them drive really well, and these are the cars that inspired a generation. The Skyline GTR's, the Sprinter Trueno's, the CRX's, all a bit plasticy and boring style-wise by European standards, but they're good cars. Some of them great in fact.

I think I sounded harsher than I meant.

I do appreciate how GT is biased and how it helped us knowing more jap cars and all that.

But on the other hand, I think there are some cars that should be there in order to be a complete game about racing/driving. And I repeat: complete.

I know about the licensing issues with porsche, I'm just saying that the nurburgring with a 956 would be nice. And I'm not a porsche fan, at all.

Still don't get why someone that knows about vintage racing would put a toyota 7 and not an M6 for a good match. I'm positively impressed about the fantastic oldies in the game, and to be honest they are by far the ones I use the most (but it's me). The thing I'm ranting about is that GT5 is more and more like a "bible" of motorsport for kids and people that is very much into it but can't take it to the track... and there are important cars missing.

I still don't see the point for 50 variations of the skyline thou. I just don't. I mean, 50... seriously...

Am I the only one that would have loved to try to get close to belloff 6.11?

ps- still a great game anyway.

Wanted to buy the PS3 only for GT5, but the cars list is too disappointing for me to buy it. So many great cars missing. Expectations during the last decade were also too high I guess... Expected much more from it, certainly when the game had so much time to build or buy/get a great cars list to make it complete. :well:

Indeed.

What I LOVE in GT are the older cars. they feel so damned right, and winning hard races in them has a buzz that very fast modern cars can lack.

EA own the porsche video game license which they then lease to who they see fit 'IE: who they won't lose sales off' GT is not one of them so they won't sell them the license unless for stupid money. I like the ruf's anyway.

But I wouldn't be writing this game off, not for a long shot. I feel they've got so much more coming and its the first console game i've played where the developer hasn't just gone, meh that'll do. They've made real changes and big ones at that, that enhance the gameplay for everyone.

So, who's everyone getting on with the game.

A Spec: Level 29. I've just completed the Indy 500. Used my Toyota 88C to do it. I can't be arsed to do it again for the points needed to reach level 30. Will wait and do a week or two of bonus races which should bring in the points. Level 30 = Red Bull X1

B Spec: Level 23. Been doing a lot of B spec lately. Any time I watch the TV I have my drivers doing a race. Mainly doing it for the prize cars. Got the Mazda Furai out of it which was nice.

Cars: Nothing out of the ordinary.

- Toyota 88C
- Ferrari 458
- Toyota 7
- Formula GT
- Corvette ZR1
- Lamborghini Gallardo
- Abt Audi TT DTM

I have cash of 16m. Really burning a whole in the pocket. Am hoping to get my hands on a Bentley Speed 8, Peugeot 905, Toyota GT One or some other Group C exotic.

A-Spec level 19. Not going so quick considering that I bought it on the day of release!! Have found this one the most difficult GT game to love.....
B-spec level 8. Whoever thought to make the B-Spec races twice as long deserves to be shot...

Most used Cars:

Buick Special - It's not a car...it's a beast!

458 Italia - Canary yellow, black wheels and aero parts....looks evil!

Lamborgini Gallardo - Having to buy this just for one race sucked!

Just bought me a Carbon R (wheelspin in fourth gear anyone? ...) and wiped the floor with everyone in the PD cup. Hahahaaa...MWAHAHAHAaaaa  :drunk:

Er.....Not giving the Carbon R to B-Spec Bob.... that muppet will come out of every corner Backwards!!!

Special event rallies....Go like a rocket through first stages only to find out that the last stage has magnetic walls    AAAARGGHHH!

 Did that on GT4 with hilarious results.....sideways everywhere around the Green Hell....even on the straight!!
The Carbon R is a bit of a monster too. 10 laps of Tsukuba and I put down so much rubber that the track surface out of every corner looked like the Nurburgring! (and that was with TC on. )

The GT One is a prize car in the B-Spec LeMans 24Hr....

The good fellows on www.gtplanet.net are compiling a list of the car in the Used Car Dealers (UCD). It seems that they always come up in the same order for everyone, but each persons start day varies.

Have a look on :-
https://spreadsheets...=CIPoyfsH#gid=0 And try to work out what day your up to on the list, then you can see when the cars you want will appear.

I'm up to Level 30 and B-spec Bob is up to level 28.
I've got more than 200 cars, including:-
BMW - M3 GTR Race Car '01
BMW - V12 LMR Race Car '99

How does the car exchange work in GT5? Do you share a copy of the car with the person you're trading it with or do you give up your car to them?

Also in Need For Speed, Shift.

Except those Porsches ALL have cockpits and full damage, and are full race modifiable.

How does the car exchange work in GT5? Do you share a copy of the car with the person you're trading it with or do you give up your car to them?

It's a gifting mechanism, you give the car to them.

And if you've arranged a trade, hopefully they send one back :)

Oh, and you can only send one car a day. (next day starts at 00:00 GMT)

So the car vanishes from your collection? I suppose that makes sense. Can you then buy that car again?

I only play it on weekends and then not near as often as others.

Ah the never ending search for realistic AI. That review sounded very much like the F1 2010 reviews I read regarding the AI cars.
