You know baddog, if you buy two of them, and keep one in the original packaging and in good condition, it could be worth a LOT of money one day. I'm just saying.

Actually I should probably just buy a real copy of the game and never open the special edition. some sucker WILL pay multiple times retail for it several years down the line, especially if gt5 turns out to be a classic.

Of course THEN I wouldnt get to play with my orange toy car ;)

Carefull though,
GT3 was quite classic for PS2 almost ten years ago, would you pay more than 10 $/£/€ for it now? What now sounds awesome plan now, it's not when PS3 is obsolete and there's XboxStation6. Old Spectrums and Nintendos are classics, but by volume new PS3s and Xbox360s are not.

Yeah, a game has to have something unique about it to become a real classic in the collectible sense. Sports and racing games seldom reach this because there is always something new and better in the pipeline. There may be some nostalgic left years later, but you never get the same value of a classic RPG or adventure game (who by definition are unique as the point of the games usually is the story and characters, something that is not really needed in a racing game).

I think if there had been a special edition GT1, then a mint in shrinkwrap copy would now probably be quite sought after actually..

I was kidding though.. I will get it out and the toys willl end up on the shelf as ever

No more delays from the looks of this:

PS3 GT5 bundle details announced. I doubt they'd reach that stage if they didn't have a 100% guarentee it was ready.

Sounds like the RB6 or RB5 may be a special unlockable car? I noticed at the end of the new trailer Vettel doing track voice overs and footage of Newey talking to a GT5 designer.

In this version, gamers will get the chance drive the Nordschleife, try out the Top Gear test track and unlock a special car which... well, let's just say Adrian Newey is involved as is Sebastian Vettel and they both met the game's designer Kazunori Yamauchi in Milton Keynes earlier this year. The Factory and the Red Bull-owned Hangar-7 restaurant in Salzburg have also been recreated and feature within the game.

http://www.gtplanet.net/ says it takes even 10GB to just install the game, so PS3 users with 40 or 60 GB hd-version owners beware. Game will work even if 256mb space left, but it's works more comfortable with full install.

I was also amused to look at some pictures of damaged sportscars.. the plastic and light alloy body shells distort all over the place in accidents

One of PD's main reasons for not implementing damage for years when games like TOCA Touring Cars and Colin McRae Rally had good implementations from the start was that the license holders wouldn't agree to it, presumably because damaged cars aren't good adverts for manufacturer's showcasing their beautiful cars. For this reason I'm rather surprised at how bad the damage makes the cars look. Rather than panels bending and dropping off they seem to crush up like an accordion. I've yet to see it in detail to make a full judgement and it isn't that important a feature but to see it at first glance looking not very realistic is a bit disappointing.

ithey are only "clever bastards" to outsiders its ray tracing and it wont have been rendered in realtime apart from as a slide show, where atleast 10 years away from raytracing at 30fps.

They are in fact very clever bastards indeed, and it is amazing what they have achieved in real-time rendered visuals using what is in the scheme of things fairly modest hardware.

I wasn't concerned or complaining, I was seriously amused, the damage looks naff ;)

Did you ever think you'd see an in-game graphics engine with graphics as amazing as this? These guys are just geniuses... genii? Clever bastards.

Seriously, that's not in-game graphics, there have been tons of these videos, but the in-game graphics look a lot more simple compared to those specifically rendered scenes, not that the in-game graphics aren't awesome, just not that awesome.

People are complaining about the damage, but for me it's a minor issue.
The biggest issue of GT5 is the engine/exhaust sound. It's just horrible, nowhere near the real thing, nowhere near the quality of NFS Shift, GT Legends, GTR2 and so on. I mean, how did they managed to get it wrong so badly?

Personally, I am not intersted so much in damage GRAPHICS, but I am very interested in damage PHYSICS. I think that GTR2, LFS, RACE07 have good damage physics and I hope to see something similar in GT5 (or at least an option for realistic damage physics). What I do not want to see is my car going head on into the wall at 150km/h on lap 1 and then I am still able to challenge for first place at Lap 20! haha
Cheers!

2:25 Vettel appears to be in the game, to what extent i am unsure. I think it may just be a fancy presentation of the car that Newey had a hand in conceiving.

The weather and night racing looks like some of the best effects I've ever seen. This game is incredible, what they have shown in recent weeks has blown my mind. Compared to what I thought of the game awhile ago, things are looking much much better.

Thats more related to the level of rotation both on the game and the wheel. The DFGT supports 900 degrees of rotation where as GT's graphical wheel doesn't....

That's the light/shading rendering engines on the PS3 chip, you can't do that on an intel computer until you hit the thousands.

Sigh. Nice graphics. Maybe good drive physics, but the basic problem of poor racing in fake classes with a handful of cars is going to remain. Still fake rallying, lack of multi-class endurance racing, etc etc.

It will be like GT4, the ultimate Nurburgring hotlapping game.

Sounds like it was related to Sony wanting to make the game comply with new firmware that would make it harder to pirate. This delayed the completion by only a few days but meant they missed their blu-ray production window - with 7 million plus copies and on the run up to Christmas, it's no small task to reschedule.

I'm not aware of piracy on PS3. There was a story of chips being seized in Australia a month or so ago, or may be you can do an image with some software but I like buying my games. It's not like music because there's all the discographies to download and again when the external disk goes bust.

Basically someone finally figured out how to crack the encryption used on all PS3 games. This means it is practically possible to hack a unit and use copied games. This is recent and there hasnt been a lot of it going on, and maybe never will be.. however any game released after update 3.5 (and designed to require 3.5 or higher) will not be crackable by this method as it has a new stronger encryption.

Sony decided, perhaps sensibly, that GT5 should be one of those games.. it had been all ready to roll out to the factories as a 3.4 game but they had to stop, remaster it with 3.5 encryption, then reschedule the pressing. This delayed the release
