It's like the hottest girl in school, she always makes sure that she puts out just enough to keep you "motivated"; but never really delivers anything in the end :well:

Or rather, looks good but lacks in substance.

And yes, Polyphony are champions of faffing around a lot and making the next version look better - but not fixing the countless flaws of the previous versions. GT4 was chockfull of glaring bugs (the AI being a driving bug-as-a-whole) which GT2 and GT3 players had complained about years earlier. Done anything about it despite those enormous delays? Nah!

Apart from that, mr. Yamauchi is the worst software project manager in history (or comes close). I don't think since Polyphony got started, there's a deadline his teams didn't miss by several miles!

There are some very old cars on that list. Almost the only 2010 models are race cars, only several road cars are after 07, a small amount of road cars are after 04, there a decent amount of cars between 01 and 04, but the majority are year 2000 and older.

Suits me as a I liked the used cars in the older games, but you have to wonder what they have been doing these last few years. The average age of cars on GT3 was probably younger than this.

I have to laugh at the Ford Falcon XR8 supercar. Surely it is time for an upgrade?

Looks awesome, but the road disappearing briefly was odd.

Yeah, I saw that. The video uploader says it only glitched like that in this replay video and not during game-play.

He also posted some Photomode shots:

Aren't most the cars actually from GT3 and GT4, as in ported models with little work done to them?

I think the Gran Turismo guys need to have a more worldwide view of motoring: the track and car list are too Japanese in their outlooks, especially when the game is now such a big deal in world gaming.

More Grand Prix tracks, more European cars, less Skylines...

Agreed. Its sooooo Japanese. The game is for them, we can buy it if we want!

Its all really down to the level of detail they put in and the lack of employees. Not many people realize that the creators of Forza have over 300 people working for them. This doesn't even include the out sourcing done for car modeling. What PD have done in 6 years has been quite outstanding. They've released a motor bike game in Tourist trophy, recreated Gran Turismo 4 on the limited psp, created a brand new physics engine which doesn't just include road racing but snow/ice and dirt and wet weather, made 200 of the most accurate digital representations of cars ever created, a track creator, 3d integration and a day night cycle, all while keeping the game running at a native 1080p at 60fps.

For me all of the above bar probably 3d integration take priority over a far more updated list of cars. GT5 is what GT3 was to the ps2 and GT1 to the PS1 so inevitably GT6 will have a hell of alot more content as with tradition.

For those of you in the UK and who haven’t pre ordered, I noticed in the paper this morning that for the first 3 days of it’s release, HMV are offering the game for £4.99 when you trade in F1 2010

Bargain,

Not really... it's a lot more than just rumble. It fights you, it gives you oversteer, understeer... it's much better than just turning left and right with nothing to tell you what's happening.

You know when you crank the wheel in your road car from a stand still then accelerate and let the wheel slide through your hands as the car straightens out? A force feedback wheel will do the same things as it's simulating the forces the front wheels are subjected to. If you lose control and leave the wheel alone it will rotate back and forth as your front wheels move from left to right because of the directional change as you spin. Vibration feedback is what you're thinking of.

I heard Zavvi are selling it at £22 on the 1st day. Like other games, you're more likely to get a better deal on release day, whether thats Zavvi, Sainsbury's or Tesco's.

Force feedback is extremely important in games that try to simulate real driving to some extent, it emulates the resistance of your car's steering rack to the tyres contacting the road and the amount of resistance usually tells the driver how much grip there is. I.e. whenever the wheel goes light or kicks to one side it means: You've lost grip. To the average Gran Turismo player, this isn't really relevant though, it was only relevant since GT4 where they actually attempted to somewhat simulate driving. It doesn't really matter too if you're driving with stability control and traction contral on because the aids will usually quell any loss of traction. But with aids on, say you lock your brakes... your wheel will usually go light.

The rain effects don't really look that good tbh. Though its good to see the car twitching around like it should... finally realistic physics from Polyphony Digital? I remember from GT4 and GT5P how planted cars in the similar class to that zonda R were (and how they shouldn't be).

Hei, would like to know - those fellows who gets the game and owns GT5 prologue. Does it grant any gift if having prologue data in PS3?

Previous GT games has granted some goodies if owning prologues or concept games of GT.

Supposedly, the cars transfer from GT5p and GTpsp into GT5, but it has been suggested that they will only be available in Arcade mode.

There has been no offical word, other than the US GT5p adverts saying :-

Head Start on Gran Turismo 5 -- Get a jump on the competition. You can transfer your Gran Turismo 5 Prologue progress to Gran Turismo 5 when it releases.

There has been much internet speculation on exactly what form this will take.

Personally, I've bought all the cars in Prologue that I fancied, and built up a small pile of cash, so fingers crossed :)

That's alrite, this is the first wheel I've owned, but have played on others... have to say I'm very impressed with it... Only problem for me is that it's more fun for rallying than F1 (F1 cars are easier to drive, less weight on wheel etc.), so I'm looking forward to GT5 for another kind of driving!

I can't drive (in the real world) so getting a wheel and having a 'driving simulator' like GT5 is cool...

Anyone can make a good render (as we've seen from the endless 'teasers' for GT5 :p), but if that's an in-game shot (from a replay or something), and I hope it is... indeed... WOW!

That McLaren further up is great too!

Those will be replay shots, which are less pointless than renders though not much. The in game looks amazing though.

Also, ANYONE can do a render? lol screw you buddy, come back when you can do it ;)

Damn... shot myself in the foot there.

You know what I mean... for a game studio 3d renders are relatively easy compared to making that object look the same when in-game and moving.

There's been so many GT5 videos over the long time we've been waiting, but some of the stuff we're seeing now is confirming that indeed the in-game visuals are as good!

I'm not sure that having a lot or real-car driving experience makes much difference, it may even be a hindrance, as the two experiences are so different that you have to un-learn stuff. On PS2 I could get over 3 seconds under the gold standard around Tokyo R246 in a Gulf GT40 because it handled more like a 'real' car to me than any other virtual car. Other cars, other tracks, gold was a struggle. I think people who have reached a high standard on consoles and then get in a real car for the first time might be in for a shock, especially when pushing it! On the other hand, there may be new Clarks, Sennas and Schumachers just waiting to hit the road.

I've had some thoughts about that now and then myself. Even the more crude racing games are about hitting lines and getting the best time out of a lap, and those who are good at that may find they are just as good in the real world. Real-life physics can be accounted for and learned, just in the same way you get used to the particular physics of a game. The only real problem would be the mindset. A virtual driver has no worries, as it doesn't really matter if he spins out or crashes, as there is no real consequence. In the real world, safety is paramount, but then the racing driver still blocks out most of the risks and essentially drives as much like he's in a video game as possible. If you could get a good virtual driver to do that then I see no reason why they couldn't be a good driver on a real track and in a real racing car.

I think I'm ok with not having any real-world experience (yet), the only thing I'd like to have some for is just to compare reality to this simulated reality Gran Turismo claims to have.

Main obstacle was clearly the physical forces on his body. He was mighty fast as a first timer.

Very interesting - but the guy is obviously exceptional, and by definition, most people aren't! I reckon that, given some natural talent the best thing would be to race Karts from a few years old, and spend every other minute on a sim, and the more advanced the virtual stuff gets (3D for instance), the better.
