I don't know about any of you but I find it crazy that it is 9 years since Joey died.

I was 18 then and a friend of the family who also worked in the bar. I have never had a memory
etched in my mind so clearly as the phone call we recieved telling us the sad news.

He was missed then, missed now and I imagine will always be missed.

Keep er lit up there Joey.

Rare to find such a great, fun loving character with outstanding determination always there below the surface. That's what Joey meant to me.

RIP Joey

I think the thing about Joey's loss was the fact of where it happened, if it had been the TT it would still of been tragic,..... but Tallin a race he did just for the craic.......difficult to still comprehend it even after all these years.
Never forgotten Joey.

He had gone to get away from things a bit as Andy McMenemy a long time sponsor of Joey on the 125 had committed suicide.

The day he died he had won two races, the superbike and the 600cc race. The 600 was Joeys first and only win in that class and
John Harris the sponsor of the bike and long time friend was there that day with Joey.

RIP

Joey liked Pirita Kloostrimetsa track and raced quite a lot here.
Yes, I know it´s not TT, but it is an old, interesting and pretty fast natural roadracing track. Some well known names have been racing on it from thirties untill present days.

I actualy witnessed his fatal crash and as some local expierienced racers think that his crash had lot to do with his weird tire choice for that race. As I remember it started to rain on warm up lap and everybody changed to raintires, but Joey put only rear one . He struggled and some riders had allready passed him before crash.

Only onboard clip from track I could find-

The crash place is around 2.27(you can see the Joey´s memorial plate on right hand soil barrier flash by).

Attached are a few pics from my recent visit to Ballymoney to see the Joey Dunlop Memorial Gardens, just the week before last. I found it very tasteful and beautifully laid out, with a huge wall detailing all Joey's many, many successes all over the world. A very moving experience and a wonderful tribute from the council and people of Ballymoney to show their pride asnd respect for their local hero. Worth a visit if you're ever in Northern Ireland.
