14 days until he can get in the Renault. NASCAR is over about 3 minutes after chequered flag drops.

It looks like he got 2 surprises today. According to Radio-Canada Reed Sorenson has been cleared to race by the doctors so JV won't be needed to replace him finally.

JV's career of late seems to be one big barrel of lols. Speculation of this and that, short lived and mainly disastrous cameos in various series, now this.

Be nice if he could settle into something.

I don't get it. Reed Sorenson was sick or something? Why wouldn't he be medically cleared? He raced at Pocono, did he not?

He should just eat some humble pie and get back into IRL. They need some name drivers and he needs a solid season in a race car.

Either a misunderstanding fuckup by Villeneuve's agent (Green?!) or a it's a bit of a cheap move by the owner to have someone come all the way from Europe to hear this..

On Sunday Peter Windsor said a former grand prix winner (unnamed) had offered to drive for USF1 for nothing. Read no further if you think that there was no reason to believe anything he said before he was a team owner and certainly less reason to after.

Now before you say that eliminates Jacques Villeneuve remember that no salary doesn't mean no income if he retains ownership of advertising space on his helmet and driver's suit for starters. So ... if we accept for the sake of argument that the offer to drive was made then it's got to be Jacques, right? He wants in, they need a veteran who understands that this is his last team, that his purpose is to move the team and his young American teammate forward, he's not unknown to Americans even in NASCAR-world and his achievements can't hurt any pitches for sponsorship.

Hey, I'd take Wurz or de la Rosa but who knows?

I've always said he'd drive for free.

You can't deny that he has passion. Some drivers just want the payday and the women (he used to). He wants to race.

All the speculation was about Jacques but if I had a choice of previous race winners I'd take Trulli, Barrichello, Montoya or Fisichella over Villeneuve. Of these, I think all of them except JPM and maybe Trulli are getting to the point of accepting a ride without pay.

That's what I thought as well. What an undignified end to his career he's living through right now.

I just found out, Sorenson had pretty bad carbon monoxide poisoning, but I guess he's OK now that he's had some fresh air.

just to put a cap on this....

from jayski.com

Statement from Richard Petty Motorsports: Reed Sorenson will drive the #43 Dodge for Richard Petty Motorsports in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen International. The Petty team retained Jacques Villeneuve as a substitute driver in case Sorenson continued to suffer from the effects of carbon monoxide he inhaled in Monday's race at Pocono. Fortunately, Sorenson has recovered from the accident. Owners George and Foster Gillett along with the Richard Petty Motorsports team appreciate Villeneuve's willingness to help out on such short notice.

It's a shame JV isn't racing, it would have actually made the race worth watching. Time better spent with the kids anyway!
