My cousin Peter has learned that there is an 'elderly' gentleman living in the same Essex village as the Connew clan, who "used to race in F. Ford the 1970s" and whose name sounds like Nye.

I say sounds like because obviously there are other ways that the word could be spelled.

Peter said he would like to go and see this person for a chat but wonders if any background could be trawled up before he goes?

Anyone out there have any ideas?

Barry,
That's a challenging question for a Monday morning! Tim Knight? Nick Foy? Doug Bassett? Any more clues?

OT, but while glancing through a 1977 Silverstone FF entry, just below Thornton Mustard, Nigel Mansell and Roy James, is Roy Pagliacci. Is that the RP who has posted the excellent film footage from the early 1970s?

There's another Nye involved in current racing - David Nye who races Fiestas and Seats in various championships. He is connected with the builders merchants D W Nye of Horsham, W Sussex. Could there be some family link to either Doug or the 'mystery Nye'?

It is entirely possible that the mystery gent concerned never raced in Cheshire, but analysis of Oulton Park FF1600 entries 1973-79 reveals nothing closer than Tim Knight.

I did, though, stumble across one race that featured Michael Roe, Nick Ham and Kevin Lunch.

That's almost as good as a Le Mans-driverlineup of Scott Speed, Scott Goodyear and John Pole (or something like that).

John - yes it is the same person and one of his claims to fame is being the last person to win an modern FF race in a Lotus 61.
