My friend bought us tickets to the grand prix a few weeks back. Any one else going? What's there to do (culturally) in the area?
I thought it was in the middle of nowhere..
Its actually a race I would like to attend as the facilities are meant to be very good.

Culturally, there is a "Cultural Center", which is like a museum containing Islamic artifacts, it's pretty nice and interesting for an introduction to the Gulf Arabs and their history. As far as night time entertainment, there are a couple of 5-star hotels where you can have cocktails and nice meals. No dancing or clubs, and no pork. Oh, and there's also a big shopping mall, in case you fancy a Gucci bag or some such luxury item. A few good Indian curry houses and Lebanese restaurants about, as well. The beaches are only accessible through the 5-star hotels. You won't need a jacket, the nights here are not chilly, not whatsoever.
Hope to see you there, safe travels!

I live in Abu Dhabi and I am looking for entrance to the time trials on Friday and/or Saturday. Sunday I have to work so cannot attend main race. If anyone can swing entrance for me either of those days, I'll be happy to show you around :-)

Totally forgot about this thread. My friend and I had a great time at the race and in Dubai (where we were staying). Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to check out Abu Dhabi. The free concerts were incredible too!
Very well organized event. A few problems with the shuttle buses on Thursday but they had it mostly figured out by Saturday and Sunday. They'll definitely be working smoothly next year.
By the way, the track (as a venue) is mind blowing. I hope they eventually redo some of the corners to make it a bit more challenging.

I agree the shuttle busses were a mess. I attribute that to 'start up' disorganisation, hopefully improved upon by next year.
My seats, by the way, were in the North Grandstand so I was at the top of the hairpin turn, which I believe was designed as a passing zone. I wasn't able to attend on Sunday, but I'm not even sure any passing occurred at that turn at all, didn't see any whilst watching the race on tele Sunday eve.
Thanks for responding to my post.

Does anyone know which are the best Grandstand seats? I'm torn between South Lower Tier & Upper Tier. Or am I going for the wrongs seats?
