What do we know about Parco Retiro Madrid, also referred to as Casa Del Campo.

No excuses for bumping this one a 78 year (Dodo Baggio) old who ran there in the 60s finds his memory failing and wants it prompting. I believe it was also called Casa del Campo.

Circuito "Parque del Retiro" was used from 1939 to 1966.It was in Madrid city Centre
Activity ceased when Circuito del Jarama was innaugurated in 1967
In madrid the was also races at circuito "Casa de Campo" and "Barajas" Actually Barajas Airport"
Pegasos used to race there...

I'm intrigued by the mention of 1939. Car or bike races? As far as I was aware the first motor sport event in Spain after the Civil War was a hillclimb at Vallevidrera in 1940.

(I tried looking at ForoCoches, but new membership seems to have been disabled there and you have to be a member to use the search engine .... :well: )

About 1939 as the first race held there ,I am dubious about that...
In that year Spanish Civil war ended so Madrid was in ruins.
At that days hillclimbs races were the most common thing.
This year Parque del Retiro was used for Martini Classic sportscar event .

Thank you for coming to my rescue.
What I am looking for are FJ results from the early sixties in Spain. The only one that throws up shows Parco Retiro/Casa del Campo .
Obviousy the compiler was having the same difficulty as myself, there appear to be few records. Joe(Dodo) says that Jo Siffert won a Junior race in Spain and that he himself had good results there with a Foghlietti. Can the mighty collective intellect that is TNF throw any light?

From Formula Junior by Orsini

21st May 1961
2nd Madrid GP (aggregate of 2 x 40 lap heats)
1. Lucien Balsiger (Lotus Ford)
8. Giuseppe Baggio (Foglietti Fiat)

No other mention of Spanish FJ results

From Jo Siffert by Deschenaux

Siffert was 1961 European FJ Champion (jointly with Tony Maggs) but no mention of winning a Spanish FJ round.

From GP Racing Facts & Figures by Monkhouse & King-Farlow

Repeat of the Madrid GP result but no others.

Thats the limit of what I find. Joe Baggio was 8th in that race on aggregate. I suppose there must have been other FJ races in Spain but where to find the results.......? All this springs from my questions about Madunina a while back.

This spanish newspaper allows you to search his archives. I used it with success for a sportscar race a while back, maybe you will find some FJ results as well :

Thanks again, I did say that Joe admits his memory is a bit hit and miss. He s sure that Jo Siffert won a race in Spain but he now thinks that he himself made fastest lap at the meeting we have turned up so far. However. he has given me some more cicuits to check but not in Spain. I'll have a quick check myself and post when I have some further info.
