Hello Everyone,

I am after any info on a Penske PC10 Indy Car I have for restoration.

PC10 chassis 001. 1982

Who drove it, where and when. Any pics of it or others in action, testing or racing.

Similar cars competing in classic or historic racing and contacts for the owners would be a great help.

Thanks Ben.

I'm sure others more knowledgeable will jump in here, but I presume you know that Rick Mears and Kevin Cogan were teammates in the PC10s in 1982, while others drove them in 1983.

Here is a link to a photo of a PC10 doing exhibition laps at Indy in 2005:

http://www.pbase.com.../image/44234514

...and a press release for a Champ/Indy Car showcase at California Speedway in 2005:

http://www.champindy..._Press_Rele.pdf

Presumably the Richard Young ex-Mears PC10 listed is the same car as in the Indy photo. Perhaps if you contact someone at Victory Lane, they can put you in touch with Young or whoever owns it now.

You could also try contacting Penske Racing at the following link:

You have probably seen this Ben, and it may not help much, but it is a gesture... Good luck!

Edited to say that having finished the cutaway I was nonchalently informed by Chuck Sprague that the headers were wrong, I'd drawn a prototype set. Now you tell me!

 Excellent photo's Tony! Please post more. I still think you have book in you, of your cutaways and the reference photo's you have taken. Race Cars in Detail perhaps.

Thank you VWV, I hope to help brmbrm with his restoration, my feeling was that others might also like to see the photographs, that is my reason for taking up space on this thread! There are more...

These photos are fascinating, Tony. I'm a little surprised that Penske chose to make their front uprights heavier than necessary (unsprung weight as well) so that they were interchangeable left-to-right.

Well, I suppose it was designed at a time when there was less concern about ultimate, minimalist design, and more concern for cost! Those uprights look hefty, but I don't remember them being inordinately heavy. Perhaps Ben can weigh one for us!

Like the great majority of Penskes it was a very handsome car, the Gould car having a better colour scheme in my opinion - yellow on white doesn't work. My cutaway, posted earlier is the base scheme, the yellow and red plus Norton or Gould were overlays, I can't find any reference to the finished artwork in either scheme, and at that time I hadn't worked out how to change screen tints! Nice photo's Don, thanks.

One forgets how nice it looks to have some shiny bits on a racecar!

Great stuff!
When you first look at a modern racecar it looks kind of pedestrian.... I could do that...
Then you get to see photos like these...
My Lord! If I ever got it apart, I could NEVER get it back together again.

The people who design these toys are truly geniuses...

Thanks again, and good luck to you. Hope I can be around to see it run again!

ZOOOM

Actually, ZOOOM, nearly thirty years old, and compared with racecars of only ten years later, archaic. A bit like us looking at a 250F in the seventies! I do miss aluminium chassis, though, they just look nice...

My uncle Jerry Karl drove one of the PC-10s at Indy in 1984 for Joel McCray. Was car #59 Agfa Spl. I don`t imagine it was the car you have as Jerry got the wall in T-one right before qualifying on the third day IIRC.....

That is an amazing set of detail photos of the PC-10

If you are responding to brmbrm, Buildy, as you know he has PC10 #001, the photos that I have posted are a mix of #002 and #003 - there might even be one shot of part of another chassis, memory may be failing me, but essentially it is just the two chassis. It should be possible to trace the chassis your uncle drove, brmbrm may know, otherwise there are lots of posters who can probably tell you!
