BMW has announced that the Qadbak Investments company has agreed to purchase the Formula 1 team based in Hinwil.
The German company had revealed earlier this year that it will quit Formula 1 at the end of the season, and had been in talks with interested parties since then.
On Tuesday, BMW said it had signed the contract to sell the team to Qadbak, a Swiss-based foundation which represents the interests of certain Middle East and European-based families.
"A strong investor has therefore been found for the Hinwil-based team," BMW said in a statement.
"Qadbak's interest in the team will be represented by Lionel Fischer, a Swiss national. BMW wishes Qadbak and the Sauber Team every success for the 2010 season and beyond."
The sale of the team coincides with the FIA having announced the 13th entry for the 2010 championship went to the Lotus outfit, with BMW as a possible 14th entry in case a current team fails to race next year.
The FIA also said it would talk to the teams about the possibility of increasing the grid size to 28 cars to allow the Hinwil squad to race next year.

There wont be more than 26 cars come Australia 2010, probably even less.
I can't see USF1 being there, perhaps not Toyota either I guess.
Anyway, good news. Hopefully Quick Nick gets to stay with the team.
I wonder if the Petronas cash will now go to this Malaysian Lotus thing...

Will BMW continue making an engine for Sauber with this deal, or will Sauber need to find a replacement?
IIRC just after BMW's withdrawal announcement Dr T were asked if they would supply engines to whoever bought the team and their reply was along the lines of no, its a complete withdrawal.

I'm pretty sure I'd read somewhere that they are pulling the pin on engines too.

Won't happen. Nobody will put a penny into an F1 team without the guarantee to race on sunday.

Also, as far as I know, Qadbak is Qatari investment fund, which allegedly bougth Notts County, so my guess would be that money and sponsorship is not a very large problem, regarding possible departing of Petronas.

You know, if they get say Merc engines then this could be quite a potent team.
I think there's a long queue for those engines already isn't there?
I'd be thinking Renault.

They must agree in accepting this Qadbak team because Hinwill crew has already proved to be a competent one.

Well I would say backing from Qatar is awesome news in terms of keeping resources, they are flushed with cash and could easily supply a team like this with the resources they need.

renault will probably go to williams, leaving toyota engines available. usf1 will stick with cosworth. qadbak sauber will get toyota customer engines. that's what i reckon.
Toyota engines would be the worst possible option and a reason for drivers not to stay with the team.

New paint schemes as well now! No more BMW white!
As for engines, well, with good backers with deep pockets I am sure they would be looked upon favourably by engine suppliers, maybe even skip a spot in the queue here or there;)

Anything but the Cosworth.
Those engines sound like they'll be overweight and underpowered.

I'd say Petronas, being a Malaysian company, would like to go to Lotus, beinga Malaysian team.
IIRC, Petronas (partly) own either Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional (Proton) or the Lotus Cars/Lotus Group company, so they're bound to link up with the new 'Lotus F1 Team'.

Sauber-Ferrari.

I think Peter Sauber's share has also been bought out so I don't think his name will form part of the new team's name...

No, Renault is horrible, look what they did to RBR. The ideal would be Mercedes but, as you said, is hard because everybody wants it.I think there's a long queue for those engines already isn't there?
I'd be thinking Renault.
Regargind the name I agree with you, but have to completely disagree about the colors. BMW's color scheme is the best in F1 imo, an elegant white with blue details. Simply tasteful. They seriously need to come up with a good name though, cos that does not roll off the tongue.
New paint schemes as well now! No more BMW white!

Porsche, Audi, Skoda and owned by VW .
But it has said repeatedly that F1 isn't a sport it wants to be involved in.
Although the idea of an Audi F1 car would be awesome, I can't see that manufacturer getting involved unless it knew they could win, and that means £££.
