I think that the best days of racing were the 10 years from 1962 to 1972. F1, F2, F3, Can Am, Endurance, Indy and so on. Today there are to many classes and the talent is so skattered it is hard to compare them apples to apples. Remember when a driver drove almost every weekend? The guy needed the money. Hulme did F1 and Can Am plus an Endurance race every so often and Indy. Pedro R. and Jo Siffert did F1 and Sports Cars. Those were the days.....

Agreed, although personally I think the "great days" came to an end the day Colin Chapman put Gold Leaf stickers on his cars!
