Has anyone seen a copy? Does it cover just Grand Prix or is there some stuff on their time in F2 etc.
In short is it a good buy at £24 from WH Smith website?

I tried to find more out from Chaters, but very disappointingly, not only could they not pre-order it, but dismissed any notion of it even being in the pipeline...
Ah well, their loss, I'll get it from Amazon.

According to Veloce's own mailer it is being published this month, November. Along with their new book on Formula 5000 and tales from the toolbox.
Please note: there is already a dedicated book thread and that is the place really to communicate about new titles.

Why do you want to know Ted Toleman's place of birth ?
The book will not tell you that.

I still own the first ever Toleman made TG280 - 01 , Formula 2 car having bought it in 1984
Do you have a particuar interest in the whole Toleman story in motor sport? Are you a contributor to the book ? I wonder how you found this forum, which is, we have to admit , rather specialised and not all that well known ? Anything else we should know !!
Certainly I will need a copy of the book, perhaps someone can let us know when copies finally touch down ?

It's not such a strange question, Victoria. Just because you are a member of the family does not necessarily mean that you have an interest in motorsport. You could have just been Googling your name for a variety of reasons or purposes. However, I/we are glad to hear that you do have an interest, and welcome to TNF!

I just wondered perhaps if you might be recording a detailed family history, research which has in recent years become popular, for a whole variety of reasons. The release of the book and your very welcome appearance here in the same week just made me wonder if you had been closely involved. Certainly no offence intended. It is a fascinating story of success..

Thanks Victoria, that means I can save £24
I have a website that features over 2,000 names from motorsport's past, present (and future, I guess). Ted is featured on there:-
http://www.oldracing...p;firstname=Ted
The reason behind this site is partly to remember who has played an important part in the sport and partly where they are now. I like to know as much as is possible (place & date of birth), only because I like to give people as complete a profile as possible. I think they deserve that.
Ted is one of the relatively few people that I am missing out on some kind of information to make their profile complete - in Ted's case it is his place of birth as I've never been able to find out if it is in South Africa or in Britain. Any help you or a member of the family could help in solving this particular mystery would be greatly appreciated.
PS I would also appreciate it you could check & see if everything on his profile was/is correct...
I only wondered if the book had a profile on Ted as well as the cars, because if it did, it would probably say where Ted was born, that was my only thinking....
Giraffe, thank you for the description of myself. I normally describe myself & what I contribute to the ORC.com site in much less flattering terms

I am sorry I certainly did not mean it to sound strange. We of course know nothing at all of the family circumstances, relationships, family tree etc and indeed members of some families do sometimes have no interest at all in the family business .

No offence taken. When i first spoke to Christopher Hilton regarding the book, i was shocked that people would want to read the story, since then i have been looking on the net to see if people were interested, and that is how i came across you lot !

I have looked at Ted's profile - I think he is living in Australia now. Ted was adopted, do not think anyone but Ted know's his place of birth. I will check with my brother, and let you know. Hope this helps.

I don't want to presume, but judging by the dates I would guess it's regarding Bob Toleman's unfortunate accident at Snetterton.

If you can give us the date, it would have been reported on the following Wednesday in Motoring News and Thursday in Autosport possibly in Motor Sport which might be dated on as much as 2 months from the time it happened.

I offered my help to the author when he was writing the book, without answer.
Still waiting for receiveing the book from Amazon.

Victoria - be assured that there are people who'd be interested in a well researched book on Team Toleman - since I learned that Christoper Hilton was working on this book about half a year ago, I've been looking forward to its release.
I'm pretty sure I've some questions I'd like to ask about the team, if I can remember what they're, I hope you can ask for me.

I don't think the car was that badly damaged as it's been rebuilt and still exists.

I haven't seen the book yet although I have talked to the author Christopher Hilton this week who has a copy and is pleased with the outcome. He tells me that we'll all have to wait a week or so more before it's available at bookshops throughout the land!

I get the impression that the car wasn't that badly damaged and was possibly repaired at the Royale factory. Royale went out of business many years ago but Alan Cornock who ran the company is now in charge of FCS Competition Services and may have some info. www.racingcarsforsale.co.uk
I'm not that surprised the car was used again. Things were a little different in those days. Our Formula Ford had had a serious accident before I brought it, although I knew the driver who did recover. It was only when we witnessed a similar accident to the same model of car, with more serious consequences, that we modified our car for safety reasons.

However reading that 10/10th thread there were 3 '76 Royale RP21 formula ford cars one each for Bob and Ted and one for Alex Hawkridge ... are we definitely sure that Bob's actual car does still exist ,are all 3 Toleman RP21s currently accounted for ?

No it isn't a surprise that the damaged car was sold and that someone else would have completely dismanted it purchased all the new parts needed , rebuilt it and re-used it. This commonly happened with road cars and race cars when it was economically possible.
