Thanks to those who have replied and will be attending. To SLK and others who cannot be in attendance, we will do our best to photograph and post images of the activities to bring it to you. Hard to believe we are only one week away from this fine gathering.

An acquaintance of mine went to the recent NNW race at Road America and had a great time, looking forward to seeing your pix Brian :-)

Have those acquaintances come back this week for the KIC and next month for the ALMS Road America 500. There is a world of opportunity for them to learn about racing other than in the taxicabs!

They will probably be taking a break from all racing they have been busy watching Taxi Cabs up to twice a week of late :-)

But I'll leave a message on Rowdy just in case :-)

I hope you are not too disappointed for they will not be appearing in any blog or format like your friends.

The weather looks to be shaping up for a mostly dry four days

Friends:

Just scored two breakfast tickets for bookman Tom Warth and self. If his Citroen 2CV makes it from Minnesota in a day (or so), we'll be there. If not, we'll have to fall back and try to make up the time with his 289 Cobra. I rather hope the Cit is a non-starter!

P.S. Be sure to meet up with the other TNF members who will be at the Donohue tent on Fri and Sat.

I talked to Mike Argetsinger this morning. He is delighted to hear that we are using the occasion of his new book rollout to have an informal TNF gathering, and will be happy to see us.
Tom

Would Mike be Ok with autographing a copy of "Technical Excellence at Speed" that I already own? I'll certainly be buying a copy of the new book as well.

Mark Donohue and Bruce McLaren were teamed up at LeMans in 1967 and came home 4th. It would be hard to come up with a more astute pairing of engineer/drivers over the years.

Looks like their car collected a fair amount of Alabahma chrome on it's way to 4th place :-)

They were the first car in the race to lose its tail section at high speed, which made the tape job necessary. They were holding down 2nd place to the Gurney/ Foyt sister car in the 10th or 11th hour when this incident occurred, if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the detail Brian, Marks '71 Ferrari 512 M was a bit of a Alabhama chrome special by the end of the Daytona 24 hour race too.

BTW you might want to check out the rest of Nigel Smuckatelli pics they are not best ordered but they are of superb quality if you have a day free :-)

I am absolutely sure that he would be delighted to do so. Mike is one of the most gracious and kind people I have ever known and I am positive that he would not only sign both books for you but would be very happy to chat with you about them.

Mark in another car with some Alabama chrome this time in 1970 on his way to winning the 1969 Daytona 24 Hours with Chuck Parsons in the #6 Penske Sunoco Mk 111 Lola T70 ahead of the 2nd place finishing #8 AIR Lola T70 owned by Frank Gardner and driven by Ed Leslie and Lothar Motschenbacher.

Brian,

What a great guy he is! He not only signed the two Donohue books, but also my Hansgen book, putting in deiffernt personal inscirptions in each of them and acting as if there weren't 100 people in line behind me, which there assuredly were. WE JUST HAD TO SHOUT AT EACH OTHER ACROSS THE TABLE TO BE HEARD OVER 4 IDLING TRANS-AM CAMAROS.

Look for yoiu tomorrow.

What a nice display! I especially liked the several Javelins in attendance-I'm a bit of an AMC buff, and everyone always thinks of the Sunoco Camaros first.

I would also like to officially thank the person who waved me into the Donohue display so I could take closeups of the cars*. This despite being the only person wearing a Gulf t-shirt among a sea of Team Sunoco gear. It was much appreciated, and capped off a great day.

-

3 Javeline, 1 in Penske colors, 2 in Roy Woods colors, a street Mark Donohue Javelin parked nearly, AMC ball caps on sale at one of the vendors, and a Pacer, or was it a Porsche 928?

Seeing the Pacer caused flashbacks to my '74 Gremlin and how I had to replace the alternator every 12,000 miles!

Perhaps we should have done a better job of identifying ourselves. I have no badge, but was at the signing at 10:30 and to be sure, back at 12:.30. Michael was kind enough to sign all 3 of his books that I own. The crew guys also signed both Donohue books. It was good to talk to Pete Law again, I knew he and Darren in Phoenix.
Anybody remember a guy wearing a day-glo Tide Trans-Am hat?

Just got in from Road America and I want to express thanks to all who came to Elkhart Lake for the release of Mark Donohue: His Life in Photographs. Michael Argetsinger, David Bull, Paul Powell and Rick Dresang all deserve a big thumbs up for the hard work over many months that made this an outstanding event. A huge thanks to all the past Team members who attended and of course, the car owners who came in impressive numbers to help remind us of Mark Donohue and his legacy.

These are from day one on Thursday as the cars and people begin to arrive and set up. Apologies for the brevity of this post. Much more to follow. Sleep is needed. Again, thanks to all my friends and acquaintances for making it a spectacular, fun weekend for myself and so many more.

Most of Donahue's cars started up also which was a bonus for us. I was lucky I was in the McKee tent so I got to hear the sweet sound of straight pipes. I got a multitude of pictures in the Donahue tent from Thursday and Friday I am surprised BSquared pictures don't have me in them :p . I took over 300 pictures in between helping prepare and fix Lotus 19, McKee Can-Am, and two Formula Fords.

Great pix!!! Keep 'em coming for all of us not lucky enough to have made it... boy, we were all a lot younger the first time we saw those cars running weren't we???
Started going up to RA when I graduated from high school- the summer of '67... (that's not a Bryan Adams song :) )

Haven't seen Michael since I raced against him a few years ago at Blackhawk Farms- we pitted next to each other and when he introduced himself that name brought back a lot of memories as well!!) Congrats to Michael for many great books now...

Jerry - Thanks for posting the photos in the Donohue thread & here. I'm glad we had the opportunity to meet over the weekend. I missed seeing Chuck Haines. I never saw him up by the Donohue tent and I didn't get far from there often. Hope you had as good of weekend as I.

Out the door for a drive to the D.C. area for a couple of field measures and adding to the completed project portfolio. I did get some shots from the paddock early Thursday, I'll try to post some later in the day.
