metz, what's the point of testing for Pirelli? If Robert will be fit enough to drive F1 car, testing for Pirelli will be pure waste of time. Robert don't have to prove himself, there are teams which can offer him test track and older car e.g. Mugello and Ferrari 150° Italia (we all know that Ferrari is Robert's final destination)...

What kind of a rally was it? I don't really know the other competitors. Are they any good?
BTW I am very glad to see him back in the car. I hope he doesn't rush too much, just keep the recovery at a healthy speed.

The c4 is a less demanding car to drive because its a better car

He is hiring a c4 because its a better car

Maybe because he has the opportunity and want to drive a different car? He has loads of cash, he can afford it. I would. Or maybe his Subaru Ride won't be available on that instance.
OR he is preparing himself to start in a few more important rallies in a current car next year? Maybe some tarmac WRC rounds as a privateer entry?

Why Lotus? They aren't best friends anymore.
Also it looks like single seaters are not possible (at least for now).

Yeah, that's why I put the questionmark. Who ever it may be for, I would think it would be pretty good publicity for any F1 team to run Robert in FP1 once or even more times.

DTM with BWM does seem to make a lot of sense, doesn't it? If he could throw in a couple Pirelli tests and an FP1 for good measure later in the season, it may be sufficient preparation to see how he might do back in a F1 cockpit...

Very interested to see how this may pan out - I was never a fan, but it would be a fantastic comeback (it really already is!), and I hope it happens for Robert.

He needs time in F1 car time to recover fitness levels required for F1 car. There's no other series car nor fitness machine that can prepare your neck muscles to survive f1 corner G loads, better than actual driving in F1 car. You have to drive the car. And Pirelli drive would be cost free to him. Plus he will get experience with Pirelli tyres behaviour for eventual 2014 return.

I doubt he would consider this as his only job in 2013, but it's too good to pass in available...

I'm sure Robert would drive for Pirelli, that's a lot of mileage in an F1 car. The problem is he need to be fit enough first.

yeah, he could use any kind of opportunity to gain mileage in actual f1 car and adapt his body and sense to f1. Also true that testing for Pirelli can probably be more beneficial than Ferrari clienti coz you use actual current and future f1 tyres. While clienti may use newer and better car they dont use up-to-date F1 tyres iirc.

The best that he would be fit enough for. I think it's open case for now and depends on his rehabilitation progress

He says that it's 70% track. So what options do we have? What is the fastest closed wheel series out there? Do LMP1 cars have enough room? I think he will be aiming at the fastest possible cars, that would be logical.

Do you also have a feeling that Robert reveals much more to the Italian/English media that to Polish?

I understand him well actually. I just commented TVN24 article about this, writing that they can't even translate properly, and they deleted my post;)

Yes for all these reasons.
But most important is his program to full recovery. The Pirelli gig will give him the F1 experience without the rigorous schedule.
The Pirelli chores provide a more flexible environment, more than any set series.
This fits best with the recovery plans.

Robert will start as "0". Good way to check how his right hand will work with standard gear stick.

I think he checked it in Fiesta during that test.

Test on track against many kilometers during Rally? :)

"It was easy to drive with regular gear stick on track, I could learn specific points where gears should be changed. It will be much harder during Rally, because it's very unpredictable" - sort of.

I bet he did more kilometers on the track than he will don in the rally. But the second part of your post is spot on.
BTW he already tested rally cars with normal gearshift leaver/paddle arrangements not only on a track but also on closed roads (his Clio S1600 and Skoda Fabia WRC).

Did the fabia have a different kind of gear-setting than the Subaru?

in terms of sports cars, lmp cars are fairly slim, but as you get gentlemen drivers, there probably bigger than a f1 cockpit, which will be just big enough... factory ones would still be as small as possible though.

and he would only need more space on the right hand side ?

I'd think DTM would suit him fine. Fast and advanced prototypes with a lot in common with F1, where he could check out if he's still got it. Now that his previous employer BMW are going to expand their DTM program to eight cars mayby there is room for Kubica?

I'd think there's enough room for him in DTM cars ;)

"He has done some Superbikes with us, and we do rallying and GT racing," he said. "We had Kimi [Raikkonen] on our tyres in rallying and Robert [Kubica] is doing some work in rallying with us, so maybe Michael wants to try something else.

Have I missed something official regarding that topic?

Maybe him wearing pirelli cap after bassano rally wasn't a coincidence? But I have no idea what is it about. I bet it is more than the cap.

I have not followed this right through but I though Robs right hand was still only semi functional? Driving a stick shift car should be less of a chore than a paddle shift which requires far more dexterity.
If he gets a tyre testing gig he will be very close to racing again,, if he is still good enough. Those injurys must be still debilitating.
I hope he gets a decent professional drive in a competitive class. It may be the best he will ever do again,, that still a miracle in itself.

LMPs would be perfect - lap times around GP2 level, quite high G-forces, long races. DTM would probably be the next best thing.

@up: IIRC Robert said he could use a normal arrangement in the Subaru, but it would be difficult for him in the unpredictable rallying environment. It's a rather different between changing gears in the same pattern lap by lap n the track. And I guess that constantly changing gears for 120+ stage km would be still physically demanding for his hand.

Did the fabia have a different kind of gear-setting than the Subaru?

While some photos suggest that these cars had a gearshift leaver, but if you watch an onboard from the very car Robert bought from Kopecky, you'll notice that it has two paddles, just like an F1 car.

No. Bassano rally was a part of International Rally Cup Pirelli - that's the reason for the cap.

Actually the Fabia has only 1 paddle, for downshifting there is a button on the steering wheel, if you watch closely you can see Kopecky pressing it while shifting down.

Hehe, I just watched the second part of that onboard, noticed it and wanted to correct my previous post :) Hats off for you for beating me to it! :)

But I think it's another paddle, not a button. It's just screw heads that look like buttons. Plus a button would not be practical, it's easy to miss, while a paddle is not.

I dont think it was quoted here yet.
"Lets just say that if ill be able to drive a F1 car, i dont think i will have any problem with finding seat....and i mean for racing, not just testing. Its encouraging and gives me strength to work hard because my goal is still to come back"

When and where did he says so?
I'm asking because the very similar words he said regarding racing in general not F1 in particular (after first come-back rally in Polish TV), and I'm afraid it might be "paraphrase" or mislead quotation.
